price of gas effecting the aftermarket parts.
Ok I was just thinking and wanted to know other people's opinions on this. do you all think with the way the economy is going with the price of gas and food and what not, that the aftermarket parts company's will start to dissapiar from all this? do you think people will still shell out alot of money to put parts on there trucks/cars to in a sense lower there MPG.....

I doubt there will be any new devices to will improve vehicle mileage suddenly invented
there will be the usual things touted and people desperate to lower their weekly fuel expense may be gulible enough to buy them
mostly they are all pipe dreams and not worth what you pay for them
we all know the tried and true methods to increase MPG
the price of everything is going to go up
look at the price of milk and meat in supermarkets already
or fresh produce, usually very inexpensive in the summer months
- now inflated due to the cost of the fuel to bring them to market
our economy has prospered mainly due to the international devaluation of the almighty US dollar
exports, for the first time in 6 years are on the rise
imports, against all popularly held macro economic trends continue to stay strong as well
the increased price of fuel however is going to drive this country into a recession
putting gas in the family truckster is not a choice when you have to get to work, the children to school, or food from the grocery store
this is not disposable income being spent, nor is it for durable goods
it will drain the pocket book of each and every family and there will be little left for the nice things we all don't really need, but want
the incoming ships are already filling with Christmas products
that is how far in advance things come into the USA distribution system
with fuel prices so high and still rising I think that USA retailers will have a bad end of year
that will have long range implications on the first two quarters of 2006 with some retailers going belly up along with the accompaning job losses
I hope that some of the oil companies are investigated
there is no way that the fuel prices should be spiking like they are
there could be future government intervention
in the future fuel prices may be regulated just like natural gas or electricity

I know that the increases in fuel are going to affect everything. And I agree with Neil, I also see the goverment stepping in to help regulate fuel costs. I know that the increases has affected my way of life. I have to limit myself how often I can actually go out. I still refuse to ever give up my gas hog of a ranger but come next month I may have to start driving my sisters old Honda that is still sitting around and let the gf start driving the truck since she rarely goes out.

Me being a highschool kid working 20 hours a week gas is VERY hard to pay for. I used to not care because it was only going up so much every so often but with the huge spikes I have to dig deaper into the paycheck to pay for gas. My 6 month raises aren't really covering gas inflation.... The bike has been doing me well lately though.

The aftermarket automotive accessories industry will take a hit, but so will everything else. I don't think it will take a bigger hit than most other goods or services.

i have one mod in the process right now. once its finished, im done modding, till i dont know when again.
honestly, i've recently been considering trading in the truck for something better with gas. if this were spring time, and i didnt have winter right around the corner, my truck would be gone. this upcoming winter is the only thing holding me to my truck for right now.

I think I have bought more stuff for my trucks this summer then any other year before, so its not really slowing me down. I how ever have a company truck and gas card, so gas is an unlimited resource for me right now, but I am waiting for the company to start making cuts on that soon, maybe.
I have family in Germany and go over there every 2 years or so, and gas has been $3.50 a liter, and seeing how it cost $48 just to fill up a small VW Jetta or Audi A4. You are a big baller over there if you have a V6 in your car, where V8's are almost unheard of. they addapted to having to pay a lot higher price for EVERYTHING.
We have been very very blessed to have damn near everything we could ever dream of for next to nothing. We STILL have it very good compared to other countries.
The way I see it, we really don't have to change our whole lifestyle, Just need to learn to watch a little more of what we spend, like we should be doing the entire time. if you can't afford your big truck, get a little car, if you can keep it, its all basic

"in the future fuel prices may be regulated just like natural gas or electricity".
The FACT is that neither natural gas nor electricity companies and prices are regulated anymore. We USED to regulate public utilities in this country, because for a long time the public utility companies selling natural gas, water, and electricity routinely engaged in price-gouging. So in the early part of the last century, laws were passed regulating these public utilities and what they could charge. These laws were largely repealed in the 90's and the first couple years of this century. They were repealed because they worked, and the corporations didn't like that. So they used their lobbying power and money to get the regulations repealed. Have you already forgotten the deregulation of electricity that occurred in the late 90's and the first couple years of this century, and the fact that right after that the electric companies jacked the price of electricity way up in much of the country and claimed that it was caused by vastly increased demand and by shortages? Which was then followed by disclosures that there had been no vast increase in demand and no shortages. The electric companies had colluded with each other to price gouge? Oil was never regulated, and certainly not by the types of federal laws that used to regulate public utilities. However, oil SHOULD be regulated, because it is just like the water, natural gas, and electricity that used to be regulated. Its an absolute necessity and that's why public utilities used to be regulated, and should again be regulated, and oil should be regulated. Corporations should not be left alone to set prices, collude with each other, and price-gouge us for what is a necessity.

Some people are more affected than others. I don't think many companies will go out of business, but they won't be making the profits they did previously. For someone like me, the price of gas really matters. I do not have a lot of money to spend. I have changed the way I drive and they way I have fun (no more long drives, no more mud). I definately don't have the money to do anything other than maintain my truck. It won't be getting any modifications for a long time. To some people it just doesn't matter though. Gas is $3.30+ here and I still get tailgated by people in SUVs who want to do 80 MPH.
