1991 Ford Ranger Torque Converter

I have a 1991 Ford Ranger 3.0L v6 automatic 2wd
I was driving along and the truck started shaking a bit and a guy came speeding up next to me and said fluid was gushing out from under my truck so I pulled over and right where the transmission connects to the back of the engine was slowly dripping out, now I’m sure the Torque converter is shot but what are the chances my transmission is still good and I can just change the converter and what are some things I should look for while trying to fix it, anything helps thank you

Probably not the torque converter, reads like front transmission seal has gone bad

The transmission has a front seal that the torque converter slides into, on the back side of that seal is the Main pump for transmission fluid, 200+psi, so if that seal goes fluid will pump out very fast

It could be the Flexplate that bolts to the crank and the torque converter, broke, which would cause torque converter to wobble, and caused the seal to leak because of that, the shaking you felt

Check inspection cover to see if flexplate is loose, but in any case you will need to pull back and out the transmission

If it was the flex plate then you maybe able to just replace front seal, but tough call, because it could have damaged the pump and input shaft alignment

Broken flexplate seen here: https://www.explorerforum.com/forums...425-jpg.15727/

You have an A4LD automatic transmission in a 1991 Ranger, only used from 1991-1994 on the 3.0l Rangers

What should I get if that is the case a new converter flex plate and seal, should I replace the filter,

I think you should find out the problem first then you can look at the options

If you want worst case then plan on another transmission, torque converter and flexplate

Actually worst of the worst case would be if end of crank broke, lol, but.......................real long odds on that, not impossible just long odds
