Have to beat mom

Ok so I'm looking for a new truck and my parents are trying to help me. They keep finding these real nice 2wd rangers but my last ranger was a 2wd and I'm hoping to step it up to a 4wd this time. So I tell my mother that I'm really looking for a 4wd ranger instead of 2 and she starts yelling "Brian if you get a 4wd you will only get yourself into trouble. Your gonna wanna go offroading again and ruin your truck!" Im like "Shut your mouth woman!" No not really but I need all your help to try to win this argument. So PLEASE give me some input as to why 4wd would be the way to go.

Are you buying the truck or are they?
If you are buying it, then, in my opinion it is your choice.

I'm buying it but I don't like to see my mother mad at decisions that I make.

Well really depends. You actually have no need at all for a 4WD, compared to a lot of us. Your roads are good condition, you aren't worrying about it snowing. Dude, think about gas prices. Get a 4.0 2WD if you can, because 4WD is jus gonna ruin your gas mileage a bit. Also, wait till your 18 then get an older 4WD truck if you want that, that yo can beat on.

*edit* since you're buying it get 4WD then! Don't be a lil baby and listen to what your mom says. When she says "you're just goin to ruin it" tell her "that's not very likely". Just be honest and tell her you enjoy offroading. She can't argue as well with a hobby,

Yeah but I did burn mine to the ground last time I went offroading so she has a point. Thats why I want a 4wd so I won't have to worry about that problem

How about just be thankful to get a second anything...?
(sometimes its better to not to get what you want.)

With gas going to $5 before next summer, I vote 2wd 4cyl stick.
There is no Plan "B"

Hmm, did you post your story about it burning down? I can't remember. Tell her you'll have a fire extinguisher and won't park on dry gas, and a 4WD is a higher vehicle than a 2WD, so its not likely that grass will catch fire.

Yeah I know to be thankful to get a second truck and I really am its just that well I love to go offroading and if I have the money to get a 4wd so I might as well. I'm not having trouble finding them it's just that I need to persuade my mother into beliving that I'm better off w/ a 4wd so she will still talk to me after I get one.

well if you do go out huntung you would like to have the added secutiry of having the 4x4! Ask her if she wants you getting stuck in the middle of nowhere because you are only 4x2! Plus yea the 4x4 will be built more for the off-road situations then a 4x2(well just tell her that 1... i would beg to differ, but she dosent need to know)

4x4's are heavier, get worse gas mileage, cost more to buy, insure, maintain and repair. They are more frequently stolen. And they almost always have higher towing ratings..

For you serious off-roaders, they are also more difficult to lift.

4WD own 2WD. No doubt about it. Every pro 2WD argument is like "a 2wd lifted with big tires and a locker is better than a stock 4wd". If ya can't afford a 2wd, don't diss on 4WD just cause it's better. I guess unless you live in a snowy state you will never realize how nice 4WD is..

Ah thats crap seriously i know enough bout backwoods fl thats where i grew up with swamp buggies and 4x4s and whatever else you name it. For offroading atleast all the places I know, 4x4s are an absolute must, ESPECIALLY, during wet season. If your a hunter and use yur truck out in the woods while hunting, a 4x4 is a must. Dude lay your foot down and tell her the facts. If you get another 4x2 truck you most likly will go rompin again so tell her a 4x4 will be a better investment. They keep their value more as well.

in some ways sure, but not all

a 2wd truck lifted with big tires and locked isnt better then a stock 4wd truck(sept for johns ) but im jsut going back to the point of price over function... going on some hunting trails a few times a year ( i dunno how many times you go but if you gun hunt legaly, its at most 2 weeks) so is the worsend gas milage, higher insurance rates, and the "might as well use my 4wd, then end up breaking something" worth it...

im trying to talk to you as what me a 16y/o went throguh when deciding weither or not to get a 4wd truck and i can say that i need 4wd a hell lot more then you would and im content with my 2wd truck...

i drove around a reg cab xl 4cyl all last winter with some weights in the back and never had more then a small fishtail when i was being a dumbass... and now with my 2wd truck with LS im sure that ill do just as fine, if not better...

just weight function over your wants, and i consider this an easy consideration since theyre both great trucks, its not like one person saying to get a civic when you want a 4wd truck....

just chew on this for a while and really think about it, but its your choice, so you can take my teenage advace or not worrie about it

lol oups... didnt notice that.

i had a 2wd ranger moded and i sold that for a 4x4 because i wanted a mud truck. had to start over with the mods, but it is SOOO worth it.
a 2wd locked doesnt compair to a 4x4. if your going through a deep mud pit and you can only get your front tire on solid ground, 2wd locked wont help at all.
