Help me out guys! (Transmission)

I found a Auto transmission thats out of a 4.0 4x4 ranger and i own a 1999 4.0 4x4. This is what I got so far i know that some are 4 speed auto and 5 speed auto. I also looked at this Ford Ranger Automatic Transmission Identification and it says the transmission will work but then from ford the guy says it wont because they are completly different transmissions. can some one clear this up for me. will it work or not? I need to know by today so i can get the transmission.

there are 2 different 4.0s

01+ are SOHC

90-00 are OHV

Maybe the one you found is for a SOHC, in that case I don't believe it would work on your OHV.

Yes it will work. As long as it is a 98+ transmission. The only thing different is that the 01+ transmissions have a "Intermediate Shaft Speed" (ISS) Sensor. You don't need to worry about that, just don't plug it in when you swap the transmissions.

Why would it matter if it's a SOHC or OHV? As long as the transmission bolts up, it should work just fine...

I wasn't sure if the bolt patterns for the bell housing were the same since they different engines. that's what I meant.
