Hi-Lift jack points
 

I just got a new Hi-Lift and I wanted to know what the jack points would be.

I can think of the hitch and the front tow hooks... what else could I use or install on my truck to use?

Those would be your best bet, the stock bumpers arent thick enough to support the entire wheight of the truck.

and don't use the stock side steps either

A wheel. I think they sell a tool just for wheels.

Gettin a Hi-lift now gives you the excuse to get rock sliders.

But if you live in a sandy/muddy area, get the wider base, it comes in handy

a block of wood works just as well, and cheeper. not such a loss if the mud hole sucks it up. or it gets left behind.

I have the wheel adapter (2 rubberized hooks that hook onto the wheel) and it works well. I've used it before when I've been stuck. I jacked up the wheels and put rocks and branches under the tires then let it back down (I did this four times for each tire). I've tried jacking from the rear hitch but there is too much travel in the rear and by the time the rear tires are starting to get off the ground the jack is up too high and it's too unstable. It could work, but it's dangerous. The front tow hooks on the other hand work great as jack points.

Here I am testing it out right after I bought everything.

The tires are only a few inches off the ground when these pictures were taken (I think in 2 of these pic above), but more can easily be safely achieved.

The winch kit isn't bad either. If you're stuck without help, you won't be in a hurry so this could save your butt. Here I'm just testing it out.

I've only used it as a winch once and it was to winch my truck onto a trailer, not fun but it worked nonetheless.

I never understood the wheel strap deal. Seems kinda pointless if you need to take a tire off.

not really designed to take a wheel off. its purpose is to lift the tire so you can put rocks, etc, under the tire. you could stack items under the axel and let the truck down if you needed to change a tire in a pinch.

Buy some of my sliders! That will give you all kinds of lift points! :)

I would use that wheel lift adapter to change a tire and it's part of the reason I got it. If you get a flat out in the sticks, you can just jack up the wheel/tire and get it off the ground. Then you can just slide the botle jack under the already raised axle and you're ready to go and change that flat. One time when I had crappy GoodYears RT/S I didn't have a hi-lift, and after spending an hour in the sand and dirt trying to jack up my truck, some local Jeep guys come by and use their hi-lift as I explained above and I was done in no time.

Skip that larger plastic base. Go with a BBP replace or add a base.

yea, but if your hung up, or your tire is in a hole you can lift the tire out and fill it in rather than trying to lift the truck and suspension at full droop.. that ain't gonna work on lots of rigs.

same deal with taking a tire off, it seems useless.. but you could lift up the wheel and put a jack stand under the axle rather than trying to get if off the ground lifting from the body. of courseeee you could always do what i tested out a long while ago and wrap a chain around your axle/leaf springs then the frame.. then jack it up from the hitch:wink:

Beard, your sliders would be sweet but I dont have $300 to blow on them.

I think I am going to get that wheel setup.
