should i put a K&N air filter in my 99 3.0L ranger what will it change ?

 

No, not much will change, you should stick to th stock paper fiters, with an oiled K&N you risk dirtying the MAF sensor wich would result in a decrease of performance. Put your money towards underdrive pulleys or a tuner.

 

yeah just buy a new paper filter when you do your oil changes, they are cheap enough.

 

I agree the only thing i gain was a trippy MAF. Paper filter FTW

 

i liked it, it gave me a lil more oomph but nothing extreme. i thought it was worth it, if anything gives the motor a cool growl and maybe 1 mpg gain.
had mine for about a year in a half and never had any MAF issues

 

I run one ONLY because it is reusable and paper filters for my truck cost almost $30. The k+n filter will not gain you anything. I have never had a problem with my mafs. I don't over oil the filter and I clean the mafs every oil change

conditions change. there is no way that something that is supposed to catch microparticles can flow loads of air....its just an oxymoron. the best filter wont let air pass through. And besides the effectiveness of the filter, who in the world wants to pay 40$ for a filter? haha no way.

 

So rather than buy a $50 filter ONCE, you would rather buy a $15-20 filter 2-3 times a year? Thats alot of extra money. Also the only reason I run a k+n

That way you can see if it's worth it. The best filter you can buy is the motor craft one

 

I had this same question about a year ago, since I like to go to dusty trails I opted to stay with the stock filters. The chance of power gain (which could be almost unnoticeable) vs. tha chance of getting my engine damaged with dust (which is most probable) helped me to decide.
