I bought my 2003 supercab 4.0L last october at 93k. I am the 3rd or 4th owner. The truck is in amazing shape and it drives like a dream. My friend has the same exact truck since it was new with about 40k less and he thinks that mine drives better than his and all he's done to his is general maintenance. He's been putting Mobil 1 in his since it was new and he's had no leaks or problems. The guy who I bought mine from changed it when he got with conventional but who really knows what was in it before that. My ranger was once listed as a fleet vehicle and whoever first owned it put 55k on it in 3 years. After that 2 other people had it and when I bought it I got a deal on it because it was a repo so I think it sat around for awhile. I think this well for one it was a repo (the guy had a lien on it) and because when I first got it it hesitated when I'd take off and sometimes slow down but not anymore, maybe because there was air in the wire or something. Ok so my question finally is.....Seeing though I can get 5 quarts of Mobil 1 high mileage 5w30 for 5 bucks a quart is it a bad idea to go with this type of mobil 1 synthetic? I mean really I could put the motorcraft blend in or this for 5 bucks more. Mobil 1 says that this is what to put in your vehicle after 75k. But some people are saying that going with synthetic will screw with the seals and it may leak now that sludge that was built up with the conventional is gone because the synthetic is gone, but others say that they wont happen and this oil will clean everything out and turn off the "wear switch"......Thoughts??

If you dont leak oil dont put that seal expanding high mileage garbage in your engine.

I would rather run synthetic and have it leak to know if the gaskets and seals are bad, I will replace them as needed. Sludge in your engine is a bad thing, regardless of where it live.

My valve covers leak and im runin the new castol edge at 7 bucks a quart. Only because it was 30 dollar oil change with a filter. Normally I run M1, now at 160k of not so kind miles.

Std Mobile 1 is working for me but 5-20 is OEM Spec, chk it out !

03 Ranger started Mobile 1 around 25K and it has 48K now.

 

why do you refer it to high mileage garbage? mobil 1 says the high mileage is made for a motor that has been running conventional.

 

what are the benefits to using full synthetic? i switched my last oil change to mobil 1 but beside the price i have noticed nothing different.

 

I'd just use blend 5w30, save your money.

 

Because it expands seals with use, the longer you use it the bigger the seals will get. At a certain point they will split. The oil is really no different other than the seal swelling properties, which only work on rubber or the alike.

Run good oil, if you leak fix them.

 

I didn't even read the post, but I use Mobil 1 synthetic oil and the Mobile 1 extended performance oil filter.

I bought the truck 5/2009 with 52,3xx miles. Did an oil change then...

My second oil change was this morning: 62,3xx miles. Didn't seem too "cruddy".

 

I just run conventional oil, never saw the point of running full synthetic on something that isn't a high performance rig that see's some serious abuse and heat.

i wouldnt care what oil it is 15k mile oil changes is just not right.

 

I use Mobil 1 5/20....I change it every six months like clockwork. It looks dirty to me after six months, I like to get rid of any dirt and moisture that may be there. .....my engine also runs like a clock, and nice and quiet. I may only put 2-3,000 miles on it, but it gets changed every 6 months regardless. Every March and September....just before winter and just after winter.

 

I change mine every 3k in winter and 5k in summer, because of moisture in the oil...It makes it acidic.

 

Yeah Blend works great. I use Valvoline SynBlend personally. Switched at 125k, no leaks before, none after. I change oil every 3k, I'm old fashioned about oil though lol. I could run to 5k easy.

I have a 2006 Corolla I use to do 2200+ k's a week and it has over 600,000k's on it now and I change it every 10 to 12,000k's with whatever dino oil Wallmart has on sale with cheap filters and my car doesn't leak nor burn a drop of oil. My buddy ran his car with only ever using synthetic since day one (he has an 05 Corolla with 150,000k's) and his leaks oil. We get the same gas milage on road trips, the cars engines sound the same.

I just don't see a benefit to using synthetic oil.

 

I tell ya why I use Mobil 1, I saw video about taxicabs that used Mobil 1 vrs those that didn't. They took the engines apart after 116,000 miles. The enging that used the Mobil 1 was nice and clean and looked like a new engine. Very little wear on the bearings....the other engine was loaded with gunk, and had lots of wear, it looked like a very used engine in comparision. After seeing how clean the Mobil 1 engine looked, it was a no brainer, I wanted that clean of an engine in my truck. I'm planning on keeping my truck for the long haul, and I want it to last as long as possible. I get my Mobil 1 at Walmart and have a mechanic do the change, it's not really that expensive, and the truck is running like new, even though it's 7 years old.

When it comes time to sell my truck, I can show all my reciepts that I have been taking good care of it, and get a decent price for it. So it pays off in the long run.

I tear engines down frequently. I see no difference between the two. All of the engines in the shop are generally not using Syn oil. They don't have the gunk, grime or anything like those marketing scams show.

 

Call it bs if you want, but my truck is still getting the Mobil 1 because it's been running great with it. Nice and quiet. What you put in your truck is your business, and what I put in mine is my business. I don't want your truck.

Oh I'm not calling BS, I was just saying thats marketing. Why wouldn't a company produce a video that shows their product working. Might be slightly biased.

 

Neither is my engine, I work on small engines and tractors, very rarely do they get syn. oil. I was just adding that I do tear apart engines running on conventional oil, I have yet to see that gunk or otherwise. I know one guy always runs syn in his, and it didn't outlast the same engine on conv. oils, both died around the 2300 hr mark.
