Home made exhaust

Hey,
I was thinking about cutting my muffler off, and getting a cherry bomb extreme 1 in dual out and then making duals with piping and pipe clamps from somewhere like advanced auto. what do you guys think? the smallest the muffler comes in is 2.5" and goes out at 2.25" i was thinking if i did it, out of the muffler id make the pipe go down to 2" maybe 1.75" is this a good or bad idea? i somewhat have access to a welder, but dont really know how to weld and exhaust, and im thinking this may be cheaper then going to an exhaust shop.
thanks,
dillon
edit,
i have an 01' 3.0

Sounds like you are on the right track. The size pipe you are using sounds ok to. I wouldnt go bigger then 2.25

dont go smalller than 1.75

if you want the 2.5 in and 2.25 out is not that bad for the 3.0s so you can stay with that size piping! they can expand a 2.25 to a 2.5 for the inlet if thats what you reall want but i would have a shop do it if you want it to really turn out nice just go get some quotes you can usually get duals with a turbo muffler from 250-300 bucks which is not all that bad!!

would pipe clamps work ok? and what is the best way to map it out? also, should i buy stainless or normal steel pipe clamps. steel is about half price.
EDIT: i might stop buy an exhaust shop tommorow and ask about pricing. ive ridden my quad with the guy who owns it, so i might be able to get a good deal.

yea clamps would work fine. Get yourself a tailpipe expander to properly joint two pieces together.

But here's what I suggest......work out your cost to buy the many pieces needed for a dual out, then price how much it would be if done at an exhaust shop.....round here, 2.5" bends or turndowns run about $5 each. If it's only $50 more to have it done at a shop, just do it at a shop, in my opinion.
