How to check engien on 95 4cyl ford ranger

Hi, I have a 95 4cyl ford ranger and I have a check engine light I would like to check but am having trouble finding a port to plug in to diagnose it.. I've looked under the driver side and can't find anything there I've looked under the hood and can't find anything for an EEC hookup. Online it said for a 95 it's an EEC and it should be located behind the battery next to the fuse box but there's nothing there. Looked all over the truck and can't find ****. Starting to frustrate me I would appreciate a detailed description of where it's located and how to diagnose it if possible thanks, I would appreciate it greatly

The OBDII connector is behind a removable panel lower part of dash between steering wheel and drivers door, that being said I have found them on the passenger side but towards the center so you could plug in a scanner from the drivers seat.
It will not be in the engine compartment, OBDI was in the engine compartment, but there should be a sticker in the engine compartment saying OBD I or OBD II.

1995 Ranger is a transition year for OBD(on board diagnostics), all 1995 Rangers are OBD II(the current standard), but not all scanners will work to read codes on these.
1994 and older Rangers used OBD I

First get the date of manufacture.
On the drivers door(back side jam) there will be a sticker, upper left corner should have that date
2/95 would be Feb, 1995
10/95 would be Oct, 1995

Rangers made from Jan. thru June didn't always work with regular OBD II scanners
Rangers made from July 1995 to end of production in 2012 worked with pretty much any OBD II scanner.

If you have a Jan to June 1995 then try the Auto XRay scanner, select OBDII generic in the menu.

EEC stands for Electronic Engine Control, so is pretty generic.
1994 and older Rangers used EEC-IV computer with OBD I communications, 1995 and up used EEC-V computer with OBD II communications

Thanks! You helped a lot. It was under the driver wheel behind a removable panel. How I never noticed it is beyond me. I've had 3 different people who supposedly really know cars and a guy at auto zone who couldn't even locate it. When it's right there in front of your face. Wow, thanks.
