ABS light?

Tonight I was talking with a couple of friends while my truck idled, I suddenly noticed the ABS light was on. I turned the truck off and when I restarted it the light was off. I drove for 30 minutes on the way home, and the truck drove and broke fine - the light never come back on. Any ideas why this could have happened, does it store a code, should I be worried, should I take it in? The truck has 64,xxx miles on it and this has never happened before. The braking system has never given me any trouble, and the fluid was flushed/replaced at 45,000 miles. As always, thanks for any help!

You can have it checked for an ABS trouble code but an ordinary OBDII code reader will not work. Ford dealers and some independents have a more sophisticated reader that can access codes in all of the modules including the ABS.

ABS codes have the form Cxxxx.

Would you blow it off, to see if it happens again?

Personally, I'd try to get the code. It might cost you a few bucks though.

my abs light would come on after driving for about 10 minutes, i realized that my exhaust hangers all broke, and the piping was laying on top of my rear brake lines....they didnt melt through, but left an indention....i need to change the lines i think

I went to the dealer [I've got a friend that works there], and had the code read. It seems that the problem was a malfunction of the ABS ECU. He ran some sort of test with the scanner and it came back fine. He reset the warning light, and said to watch it because it could have just been a "glitch". If it comes back on the ECU has to be replaced [$230 his cost].

I just fixed mine via dealer

They said all mine was is the pretensioner spring needed tightened or something like that under the seat. Check that first its your best and cheapest if any money at all bet.

Actually, yours was a problem with the airbag/restraints system, not the ABS.
