if you really want a good sound go with long tube headers with 2-1/2' intermediate pipe with no cat and the muffler of your choice (mag or flow or borla). That's what I did on my camaro and it sounded pretty damn mean. I think that cats reduce not only the noise level but they make it sound crappier.
