I am looking to get the ESP before my warranty runs out. My main concern is the tranny then the engine. I do not want to get the ESP and have them say the part that failed is not covered by this warranty but also do not want to buy more than I need. Which warranty is the best for this? I searched but could not find an answer that covered this.

I did some research concerning Ford's ESP packages, and decided they were a waste of my time and money.

I wanted a warrenty, since I know Rangers are notorious for having hydrolic clutch problems. The friggin fluid resevoir is plastic, so of course there will be problems.
If the system runs low on fluid, the slave or masters usually go out, and it costs to fix that crap.

Anyway, called Ford asked which plan covers those components. Basic, nope. Extended, nope. Premium, of course.
Sucks, because Premium includes things I don't have like power windows, cruise, auto mirrors, etc. That means I pay Ford to cover something my truck doesn't have. Plus, Premium was like 4 grand. Told them to forget it.

 

I too am having a hard time justifying the expense. But looking at my service log makes me think twice. I dunno..

At this point I'll probably be out of warranty sometime this summer (over milage). I'm thinking I might take it in just before it runs out and complain about everything.. then roll the dice and take my chances for another year or so. At that point I'll probably just trade the damned thing away!

 

Ford Base Care covers 84 components. Included are Master Cylinder and 83 other parts. George, I was smoking a crack pipe. J/K

I paid 630.00 for 3 years, 75K with a 50 dollar deductible. I have a buddy who has worked for Ford over 10 years and can not match this price. Genuine Ford ESP.

Master cylinder in the base care covers the brake cylinder, I'm talking about the slave clutch cylinder. It's the plastic crapola one that tends to break after the warrenty is up. Ask any good Ford shop about it, they'll tell you Ford should be sued about the design.

Base and Extra care are Inclusion warrenties, which means if that part is not expressly listed in the warrenty; it isn't covered. Look it up on both warrenties, you won't see anything about the clutch cylinders. I find it suspiscious that Ford won't cover something that's prone to failure. The word "scam" comes to mind.

Premium care is an Exclusion warrenty, so they list only what isn't covered by the coverage. They only list comsumables as exclusions, so the clutch cylinders are covered. But, it also covers things my truck doesn't have, and it costs lots more than the other warrenties. It might be a good deal if I had power windows, power seats, sunroof, and every factory accessory know to man, but I don't.

I talked with numerous Ford warrenty reps and service managers about this, and specifically asked about the hydraulic clutch system. Each time, I was told only the Premium warrenty would cover repairs. That is the ONLY warrenty that expressly "includes" that system because it doesn't expressly "exclude" it. Confusing, I know, but that's Ford for you.

Ford has been cracking down on all warrenty repairs, which means they will follow the wording on the warrenty contract. The dealers have very little room to adjust, because of this crackdown. It's been in numerous trade journals, or just ask any Ford service manager. Ford just doesn't want to pay for repairs to their vehicles anymore. They want you to buy a new one.

For me, the choice was quite simple. I did not want to pay the extra money to cover options which my truck didn't have (or in most cases, never COULD have). I also didn't want to argue with my service manager over what was, or wasn't covered, by Ford's badly worded warrenties. So, I let my eligibility period elapse, and I've just been working on having a good relationship with my local Ford dealership. In the end, that's really the best way to get good service for less money. Trying to force someone to fix your truck because you have a warrenty that you purchased from a website isn't going to help that relationship.

 

None of the plans on that page you refered to say anything about any of the clutch components. Neither the master nor the slave cylinders are mentioned, nor clutch plates or any other components. U and CV joints are covered, but there is no mention of manual trans clutches whatsoever.

I'm far from an expert on extended service warranties, but it looks like George is right! And quite frankly the clutch is also my #1 concern. I'm at a little over 22k miles and ALREADY on my second clutch..

I dunno. I can't find explicit mention of the clutch master of slave cylinders on even the Premium Care listing on that site 03OxfordEdge linked. Although it DOES explicitly mention that it does NOT cover clutch plates..

 

My bad!!! George, you are correct. Manual transmission is not listed period. You are right...that is bull****. Regardless, the prices listed are nearly impossible to beat provided you have an automatic. At 630.00, 1 A/C Compressor w/dryer and labor would easily cover this. But again, Ford is betting on the odds that the consumer will not use it at a loss to the company, but at a profit. I know people at Ford. It is common knowledge that they are cutting back on warranty repair. You ought to ask The Lightning guys. (SOLD) Chip/Pulley, Air Fuel Ratios altered etc. OASIS WARRANTY TERMINATED. My dealer had to send a photo to Ford to have my drivers side door seal approved for replacement. Basically, I thought this was rediculous. Not to cover the manual transmission Slave Cylinder is unacceptable. to Ford. I am most likely going Nissan/Toyota/Mazda ? next gig.

 

Only Brake Master Cylinder. The source is still good. It is OASIS and Ford will honor it regardless of point of purchase.

 

Anybody who mods a lightning (chip pulley) really, REALLY ought to know that its going to void the warranty. One of my shops has a Harley F150 that sucked a valve, he had chip and a pulley, its waiting for a Ford Inspector to come look at it, but its almost certainly going to be denied.

 

Exactly....and if you buy one used with less than 36K, you better have your buddies up at Ford check OASIS to see if WARRANTY is nixed.
