my '01 ranger is my only vehicle that i've kept longer than 4 years, so since i've had it for 9 years, i guess i'll be keeping it around until she dies.

ive had mine for about 1 1/2 yrs now, and at 120k miles, (bought at 90k) ill keep it till the problems start, or someone hits it ... only thing it needs right now is new leafs and seats. I drove this truck to wisconsin and back last year, and this year its been camping a bunch of times (including flat towing my dads jeep) and I went to las vegas.

anyhow ... when the time comes unless i have the need for a fullsize, the plan is an 02 or newer 4cyl 5spd xcab, hopefully this time i can find one with cruise. If i end up living somewhere where the weather is worse i might go 4wd on the next purchase and with no desire to buy a 3.0 or replace slave cyl's all the time, id go for a tacoma or z71 silverado.

I bought my 2003 Ranger with the plan of making payments on it for 5 years and then drive it for another 5 years with no payments. I'm 2.5 years into the plan so far and it's working out great. 2.5 years to go and it's paid off. We'll see about selling or keeping it after that. So far the trucks looks just like the day I bought it. I'm keeping it in nice condition so it will last a long time. It only has about 41,470 miles on it, so it should last a while.

I'll keep mine untill it is totalled or the frame rots out which I am preventing as much as possible. When I get out of college I would like to buy and build up a '78 or '79 F350 if my ranger will last long enough.

My wife and I were just talking about this the other day. The Ranger will either be traded in, or turned into a full-time trail rig when it's 10 years old - provided it lasts that long - by then it should be at a minimum of 200,000 miles, and I should be ready for a new F100, or whatever they have out at that time.

I will decide when I put 33's on 15x10's (soonish). I like the look of it, the fun of it, and the usefullness but I'm trying to get my life in order with my mechanic apprenticeship and it's getting hard to do the payments with gas. So if I do ever switch, it will be sold privately and either

1) From the Ford dealer I work at, getting the employee discount and hopefully drop my payments a bit

a) Get a 2010 Ranger, base model looks, 4x4, and power everything

b) Get a 2010 F-150 BASE, with 4x4

or c) 2010 Fusion with power everything and hopefully AWD

2) Used CAR, not a truck, that would cost the same as what I sold the truck for

a) G35 coupe, standard

b) 350Z coupe, standard

c) Maxima, auto

d) Legacy or WRX, standard

OR get myself a little street bike (i.e. Honda CBR125) that would cost nothing in gas or insurance, and buy a beater for winter

OR.... (lol) buy a little street bike, keep the ranger but just store it during the summer, saving me gas & insurance, but still having a reliable, BRAND NEW vehicle for winter.

until it gets destroyed beyond repair
When I get my next car (M3 or STI ) I will need it for a winter vehicle so it will be around for a while yet.

I'm keeping my 86 until I die. And then my son is going to keep it, and so on. As far as the 97 goes, I'm turning it into a show truck now...so its probably going to stay too.

I plan to keep mine until we run out of gasoline... I came SO close to buying an 04 DSG Lightning with the exact same miles as my ranger (36XXX) and came really close to selling the ranger to a guy and picking up a loan to get an 03 sonic blue termi... but I backed out of them obviously because in the long run the ranger would out last them both.... because those would either kill me first or something catastrophic would happen and then I wouldnt be able to repair it.... in other words... 5.4 supercharged v8 is going to get swapped in when the 3.0 lets go

the more I think about it the more I think Ill end up just keeping it untill it falls apart. If possible I would keep it around as a beater /parts hauler.

Its worth more to me to keep, than it is for what I would get selling it, and definitely not worth trading in. So I plan on having a while. When the engine blows, if ever. Its getting a 5.0.

Until it has to be hauled off as junk, or until I'm too old to drive...whichever comes first. Or until I can afford a GT500KR.

Like most others in the thread, probably until it dies/gets totalled. The only way I'd reconsider is if Ford either brought the crew cab Ranger to the US, or equipped the Sport Trac with a 5-6' bed. I can't afford it, though, until the wife's car is paid off.
