Oxygen Sensor - Where is bank one upstream located?

1998 Ford Ranger 4.0 motor, automatic transmission, 4x4.

I've been told it's on the drivers side in the exhaust pipe by the guys at Autozone, after they scanned it and returned a P0133 code - bank 1 - sensor 1. I've replaced it with a Borsh, driven it 200 miles, and the Check Engine light was still on. The Autozone guys also said that it would the light would turn off automatically once things were recalibrated. I disconnected the Negative battery cable to reset the Check Engine light this morning, drove about 10 miles or so and the Check Engine light came back on.

This is an ongoing problem, I've replaced all three a couple of times now. I'm wondering if it's not in the wiring harness.

The first scan also returned a P0401 EGR system code. I replaced the EGR system, and had it rescanned, and it's not returning the P0401 code.

Correct, check the wiring and connectors. Could also be a vacuum leak or MAF issue.

Thanks guys, my bad for asking the guys at Autozone. I have the Ford Shop manuals for my truck, thanks to a previous post in the forum, but they don't tell you which one is bank 1 or 2.

And does anyone know what the size is on that stinking EGR nut on the EGR tube that bolts into the EGR valve? Is it a 26 mm? I've got a 1" and a 1 1/16th" wrench, 1" is too small, and 1 1/16th" is too big. I've searched the web and see a lot of folks asking, but no definitive answer. An 8" pipe wrench, with a cheater bar going in through the wheel well worked for me.
