hey, so a few days ago, i noticed that the emergency break light comes on, when i hit the breaks really hard. i never noticed this before. is this normal? the light that comes on is the one that indicated that the E-break is on. ive check everytime it come on. and it is not pushed down. is this normal, or do i have electrical issues?

 

no i would say its not normal but as to what is wrong i have no idea.

 

when is the last time you did your brakes? i remember old chevettes i drove. if you pushed the brakes hard, the parking brake light would come on due to the shoes not having enough meat on them.

could be that or could be a sensor.

 

Usually when that happens, it means low brake fluid. Unless you have an electrical issue with the emergency brakes.

that too. i forgot about the brake fluid. check that, if it's low maybe you have a leak in your brake system. a spot thats always bad is the rear caliper. those things are horrible.

 

damn those pesky rear calipers on rangers.

 

I'm still surprised people misspell brakes.

x2 lol When I think of emergency breaks I think pulling over on the side of the highway to take a leak! lol

 

and when your calipers fail...you get fluid all over the place...

 

yeah mine did the same thing, thought it was for low drum shoes so i replaced them, then found out it was for low brake fluid

I'll go out on a limb and say he actually was talking about the rear wheel cylinders, I know I had a period when mine would seize up....not fun.

But if he actually was talking about rear calipers.......well I guess he's a crazy as a fox....LOL

 

yea, sorry that's what i meant. the thing (in this case the cylinder) that pushes the shoes out. i forgot what they were called, but i remember that replacement is cheaper then rebuilding.

 

yeah definitely brake fluid. most cars as far as i know, do this.

my grand prix did. my dads truck does. our bimmer does.

fill up your brake fluid (without spilling it on any painted surfaces lol) and let us know how that works
