Hp Upgrades - Where to start?

I am sure this has been discussed somewhere before (like all forums) but my search did not get me what I wanted.

So I have been looking through this forum and I have found a couple of things. The previous owner of my truck did some work to the truck as far as cosmetics goes and it looks great. I use this truck as a daily and I want to open the motor up a little bit. Here are my ideas for what I am looking at.

1) Cold Air Intake - I found one on the K&N website. It is $359.00. Has anyone used this one?
2) Tuner - I have been reading about the SCT tuner in the 4.0l section. There are 2 places in Frederick, MD that sell it. I really like that Livewire they have. SCT Performance - Livewire TS Performance Programmer & Monitor Part Number: 5015
3) Exhaust - I have found some headers on summit <--I think that is where I found them, and I have found some CAT back systems. Has anyone ran a full custom system? I know there are universal CAT's out there and I know of a good exhaust shop that did some work to my Jeep.
4) Rockers - I have not looked at these items yet but has anyone replaced them?

What else could I do? I will start making purchases next month. I am not trying to build a race motor but I would enjoy the couple of pennies at the pump.

Don't get a stupid CAI! Its not worth the cost. all it will do is make the engine growl a little more at 3000RPM. performance-wise, it won't do much more than make you want to hear it. it you want the same effect for a fraction of the price, do the air box mod and remove the silencer. it will give you the same effect. for like 60$ you can get a K&N drop in filter because you will get the filter a little dirtier that you typically would, but that all depends on if you drive off road a lot.
Its your truck, so do what you want, but I would advise against the CAI.

What year is it? The SOHC doesn't have rockers just the cam. And for the Livewire I've never heard of it. Looks like a cool setup. Most guys on here will tell you to go with the SCT X3. Exhaust wise it depends on what sorta sound you want. I have magnaflow and its decently loud. I've had dynomax and it was a little louder then stock but not by much. If any of that helps you out

I am not looking for a lot of sound as I am more for function. It is an 04 with the 4.0l in it.

Honestly dude that's a lot of upgrades for a little performance and you deff won't save the money in gas savings for a LONG time. Might as well research "RPcaster supercharger" and maybe go this route:
Ford Ranger 4 0 SOHC supercharger Installation Kit For | eBay

Simply, if you waited a while and saved some money you would have noticeable horsepower improvement, I think some gas mileage improvements(i think!!!) and simply, it would do better than those other things combined. Plus supercharger = nice sound :)

Just my advice, from someone who's sunk a ton into the suspension of my truck and fixing it, when I would've been tons happier from the get go with a solid axle suspension and would've paid the same.

So I did a pretty quick search on superchargers and no one really has one anymore or it was not made for my truck. I checked out BBK and explorer express. I don't know about buying something like that from ebay. That looks kinda shady.
