accelerator sticks...
Hey all,
I am somewhat new to the forum. i have a bare bones 2007 ranger with 4cyl, 5 spd. This is kind of a weird question but maybe it has happened to you guys.
sometimes when shifting, when I relesed the clutch and try to ease on the gas, the accelerator will stick. it only sticks right at the point of first applied pressure. Its not like it has caused me to die coming out of first, but it can make the shifts kinda hard because i cant ease on the gas, I have to give it a good push. Im sure it cant be good for gas mileage either due to the fact I have to give it more gas than I should.
Its not a huge problem and I am sure that I could live with it. But it is annoying, especially in heavy traffic.
I was just wondering if anything like this has happened with you guys. I tried to toy with the accelerator linkage but I really dont know where to start and its hard to tell if it is sticking when pushing with my hand as opposed to normal use.
Thanks for the help guys. Any help is appreciated.

Kllr,
Try letting off the gas, then pushing in the clutch. If its really sticking take it to the dealership to get that fixed as thats a bit of a safety issue thar If it decides to stick at WOT, your toast or your engine is.
=)
Welcome to the forums, I am the obligatory furry (far as I can tell) and rampant bouncy kangaroo from california.

Could be a few things, first and most likely a sticky cable. I would probably just buy a new one if they're a reasonable price before I would try to lubricate it (probably lithium greace). I would also check out the return spring at the throttle body, make sure it's not catching or rusted to make it more stiff than usual. Also the third thing I would check, but most unlikely would be the accelerator mounting bracket. The pedal arm may be too tight or sticky (again white lithium would probbaly be best here) or the bracket-to-throttle-arm/lever bolt may be too tight.
These are just suggestions, I don't even know how the throttle system works on anything newer than my truck so it's just a few shots in the dark. Good luck.

Alright, thanks guys. All good suggestion s and good places to start.
From the way it feels, Im going to guess return spring but Ill check everything. As far as it really sticking where it is a safety issue, that is not the case. Once I get past that initial stickiness at initial pressure on the accelerator, the rest of the travel is fine, so no getting caught up at WOT.
It could just be coincidence, but I think it tends to happedn more when it is colder out. So initially, I was thinking that there might be some condensation getting on the cable and causing it to stick, but after thinking about it, its not cold enough to freeze so I ruled that out.
Ill just take a look at it. Not a huge deal. Just annoying. I figured id ask the knowledgeable forum members here first and see if this was one of the rangers little glitches. Thanks again.

how far do you think your gona go the trucks turned off. If you can't turn the wheel of a moving vehicle with out the power you must be one weak **** son of a gun The trucks turned off how far do ya think you are gona go? Just push harder with your foot if all else fails there is a thing called a EMERGENCY BRAKE you could, maybe, possibly, if you're lucky bring the truck to stop with that.

I had to adjust mine when it was new to prevent what you are experiencing. Just make fine adjustments until the problem goes away.
