I stopped at a accident one night that was blocking the far right lane at a stop light the guy had severe frontal damage the intersection was not lit very well and his electrical was not working so his black car was in the dark. I stopped and no one had called the police yet so I called, took them almost 45 mins to respond. and in that time used my last flare while I waited and I had my flashers going. Speed limit was 45mph and I counted about 6 cars that came very close to rear ending me.

That is one of the many instances I used to justify getting some lights to grab peoples attention...
Illegal and hazardous.

i'll try and keep it brief for the sake of thread drift but this is just one of my pet peeves.
other drivers have no idea what white flashing strobes are on the side of the road. if your doing it for hazard avoidance, amber would be a logical choice. still illegal unless your a tow truck or other emergency vehicle.

while i agree ppl are generally retarded on the road...

if you distract drivers it only increases your chances of getting struck. ie cop cars, tow trucks getting rear ended... its human nature to drift into what your looking at or whats distracting you. Its a natural physiological reflex, this is a fact.

I was driving the NJ Turnpike to work the other morning, there was a ford focus with out of state plates driving the highway with white strobe flashing in his tail lights. If i didnt have better things to do i would have called the police. actually my GF talked me out of it. Its dangerous.

never underestimate the power of stupidity. im not talking about you with your strobes, im talking about how others will react and those consequences.

if you stop to help another driver, call the cops, and he pulls up while your strobes are flashing away on your civilian vehicle, in the shoulder of a public road, your getting a ticket.

okay okay, rant off, group hug.. sorry :) flame suit zippered up.

yeah, thats not correct. well maybe in jersey... amber strobes are legal for use in emergencies as well as white, you can have red strobes facing rear

this is for ky, check your local or state restrictions:

Exactly. It changes state to state. When I was a volunteer FF in NY we had blue lights. But in a lot of other states blue lights are for police only. So it changes state by state.

For one who said anything about white strobes. For two your talking about the laws on your communist New Jersey state. and three you deal with jersey drivers, not the best in the world to start with...

Also it is not completely illegal for me to have them as long as im not driving with them on. Im not arguing with you about the people drifting running into vehicles displaying lights. Im just saying that while I have them on if they do not more over while im parked they get a ticket (traffic) (2nd off. class 1 misdemeanor) and if they were to hit me while I had them one they would also lose their license for 2 years. I still have some work to do on the bracket and install and it will stay like that until I get a second one for the glass and then it will all be hardwired.

Technically yes, they are only allowed to use them while plowing on private property. If a privately owned plow was driving down the street here with it's lights flashing it is a ticket able offense.

It's just a reason to stop you if they feel like it. I don't know of anyone in va who has gotten a ticket for them unless they have the wrong color are using them when they have no reason to and being stupid. Dark tint is illegal people still have it. That's a huge safety issue and a good way to put an officer on edge as he approaches your vehicle. And a quicker way to end up with a ticket than amber lights that are only used only when necessary.

If you say they are illegal and that I'm gonna get a ticket for them what do you say about HIDs plenty of people have those after market and 100% they are illegal.

All depends on what your states laws are regarding equipping your vehicle and use.
