Scored a free set of wheels today!

just having a normal conversation with this guy about our trucks. i brought up my need for new wheels (15x8s) he goes, dude i got some old american racing wheels sittin in my shed at home, i been trying to sell them for like 20 bucks, GET THEM OFF MY HANDS. well you sure cant turn that down They have a little surface rust, but hell, other than that, they are mint.

My question, these are not my favorite style, but you know, take what you can get. So, i wanna eventually get these powercoated flat black. How much would this run? The guy who gave me the wheels says if you know somebody at like BilJax or something, they will run them through for free.

Option 2, can i paint them myself? If so what all will i need as far as primer (if needed) and what kind of paint. I would imagine its best to use a clear, even though i want them flat black. idk i just dont wanna have to paint them again.

Well, for the time being i may just throw them on and run em like that idk.

i put one of these on, they are 195/65 and they already stuck out farther than my 32's!!! i guessed maybe 3.5" BS but idk. so i cant imaigine what they will do to the 32s.

Not bad. What are you going to do with your old rims? If you are gonna sell them, I call dibs.

If you plan on painting them, duplicolor makes a good wheel paint, I've used it on my Bronco's wheels. Just make sure there is no rust on the wheel at all, otherwise it will eventually come up through the paint.

The easiest way IMO is if you get them sandblasted. Then primer, then paint. Powder coat them if you can, but spray bombing them will make for easier touch ups.

you should get them powdercoated while they're not on the truck yet

get those little donuts off of them, and find a place to do it. its usually not that expensive. maybe like 20 bucks a wheel max? thats the prices i've seen around here at least.

Wal-Mart will do it for a round $25. I wouldnt get the life time balance and rotation through them. They seem really difficult and unwilling to work on them unless you are handing them money.

You probably measured from lip to lip... you measure a wheel inside the lip to inside the lip. I did it too till someone told me different lol

Just go out and get the finest steel wool you can find. Then go to town polishing them up. I would let me chrome Z06 wheels go for months and get covered in brake dust and road grime. About 5 mins a piece with super fine steel wool and they'd look like new.

tyler, your probably right, cause i did it when they were still on.

i think im gunna just take them to walmart tomorrow and have them switch the wheels onto my 32s.

only thing to think about is if i want to keep white out, or go black.

I'd stick with what you got, personally. Those wheels would be good studded winter tire wheels.
