happened to me and my dad....once
we caught on to who it was after asking around and decided to solve it our way.....
bought a cheap 4 gallon gas can, filled it with bleach and mixed it with maybe 1/2 a gallon of gas to cover the smell. (well worth the $2)
we left it in the back of one of his work trucks overnight.....
the next morning it was gone
later that afternoon we saw the 2 ****** (who everyone we talked to said it was) pushing their precious ghetto mobile down the street WITH OUR EMPTY GAS CAN IN THE BACK SEAT.....apparently it had started to knock and eventually seized up

Regarding the original topic, I've found something that'll work very nicely. Tomorrow I'll take pics at Ace of the product. Both are security sheet metal screws...one uses a hex screwdriver tip with a center pin, alot like the security torx on our MAF's. The other is a flat tip with two small holes, called a spanner i believe?
Each screw is about $2 each, and the tool(REDICULOUS!) are about $10!!
Update this thread tomorrow.

i hate locking gas caps.
maybe because the one i got for my truck sucked. it was pretty hard to unlock lol
luckily the other day i drove off with it sitting on my toolboxand never saw it again. gave me an excuse to buy a normal non locking gas cap
but i'd rather have someone siphon my gas out of the filler neck then someone get real ambitious and bust a whole in my fuel tank. i'd rather buy a tank of gas then a fuel tank. lol

Locking gas caps are a waste of money!!! You can pop them off just as easy as a regular one. All you need to do is get a real frim grip around the bottom edge and turn it. They are like a child safety thing on advil. I pumped gas for two years in highschool and people would come in all the time and say fill it up only to have me ask for the key. 99% of the time I was told it's my wife's/husband's car. So I had to learn how to get them open. Best part is you put it back on it's locked and nobody would ever be able to tell.
If they have a good one or stuborn one a big set of channel locks will do the trick everytime.

or you can shoot a dywall screw easily through it and it will opem. had to do thet last winter when the damn thing froze and i couldnt get it off. happend to have a few screws in the truck and my multi-tool (leatherman).it may be easily defeated, but in some cases a theif will move on to a easier target rather than take any more time with it. dad once said "a lock merly keeps a honest man honest"

That's a great story . . .
Reminds me of another one that illustrates the danger of taking ("borrowing") things/stuff without asking . . .
Knew a guy who had a service center that did a lot of repairs to taxicabs.
Taxi drivers would be there with their vehicles all the time, and often didn't think twice about helping themselves to various fluids - e.g. topping off the rad with coolant, adding oil, power steering fluid, tranny fluid, brake fluid, etc., without asking permission, of course.
The owner finally had enough of this nonsense and mixed up all the fluids that were in an accessible area (brake fluid in marked tranny fluid container, tranny fluid in the jugs marked "oil", etc. - you get the idea).
As he said, you could tell the ones who were helping themselves, because they would come in and say (for example), "I'm having some trouble with my power steering pump; it's been making a funny noise ever since I filled it here the other day". Of course, he'd ask, "Who filled it for you?" and they'd say, "Well, I topped it off with the PS fluid from your shelf".
Needless to say, it quickly weeded out the ones who thought nothing of helping themselves without asking.
