I now have 10 cylinders of ranger-goodness..

Looking for a "I swapped a V10 in my ranger" thread?

Sorry!

But I bought another ranger (for the winter)

My blue truck is just too nice for me to drive this winter (the 3.0) so I bought a 2003 basic bare bones 2.3 L4 DOHC with an automatic! (lol, I know I couldn't find a stick) Truck has 77,000 miles and a bunch of problems.

Some pics...

I threw a P0171 and found a few vacuum leaks (3!) one was really obvious, its just a ghetto fix for now.

This will be a NO MODS truck, just trying to get it super reliable for the winter (yes that means no LEDs )

rstangboi 09-27-2009 03:26 AM

booo you gotta have SOME fun with it lol

evilclown312 09-27-2009 03:46 AM

Damn it you got me excited !! lol You gotta mod it some!!!

Fx4wannabe01 09-27-2009 05:02 AM

No mods!? hahahaha...you mean no more right? It already has an incorrect grille and incorrect mirrors! lol.

*err...A incorrect mirror. only one. hahaha.

Right now I'm trying to get all the parts I need.

The drivers headlight is loose because the sheetmetal bracket clip that goes on the inside is missing (you know the ones you have to pull up to remove the lights)

Anybody have one of these I can buy?

I also need a new degas bottle. The one in it was cracked and it leaks pressure when the cooling system is pressurized. This will affect the usefulness of the coolant so I need to change this asap.

Anybody have a degas bottle I can buy?

Shane said he has 4 sets of those clips yesterday.

This is the clip I need:

This is the bottle I need:

These 2 hoses were just vented to air, leaking vacuum. I think this might have been part of the cause of my P0171. I'm trying to figure these out from the vacuum diagram on the front support.

Nice truck. If no one has that bottle try a j/y, and replace that flag style mirror! At least make 'em match. A j/y would have that headlight bracket thing you need as well.

Trigger01 09-27-2009 02:31 PM

Cool man. glad ya got ya another truck.

I tried yesterday, went to 3 of them. They didnt have any newer rangers with the same headlight setup I have, and they didnt have any 2.3's either.

Looks pretty clean! You should do two mods... tint the windows and head light mod

I have to turn a pop-can sideways in order to fit over it, plus even in the rain I can spin all 4 tires at 60mph on the highway, not a good idea. Not to mention salt & rust which is the main reason I bought the white truck.

the words nice and ranger dont belong in the same sentence. lol

but looks like a good beater for sure.

No thats pretty good. It means all the 2.3's are still running. God I love 4 cylinders. I checked just now, 21.5 inches of vacuum :biggthump

MothMan999 09-27-2009 06:11 PM

So why didn't you just drive the blue truck and wash it after it got salty and dirty.

Tys 4x4 FTW 09-29-2009 12:44 PM

^^ thats what im sayin. why need a beater for a ranger?? lol
i thought the ranger was supposed to be the beater for the evo haha

korey89 09-29-2009 01:27 PM

Yeah, I thought the blue ranger was supposed to be the daily beater?

nah its too clean for that.

white truck got new brakes today, all 4. Plus i turned the front discs. Now she stops without the pedal sinking deep and then pounding up and down when i put all my weight on it.

This week and last week I:

Changed the oil and fiilter
Changed front pads, spun rotors.
Changed rear pads
Changed fuel filter
Changed air filter
Changed wires/plugs

Got only 22.1 MPG this tank (mostly highway)

Be interested to see how the maintenance helps the mileage next tank.
