I'm not really sure what caused it, but some of the research I did leads my to believe Ford screwed up the recall on the '02 units. They should have called back all of the units with 9700 in the serial# not just the manual transmission trucks.

Now I'm starting to get scared about my Torsen. lol
You'd be surprised. I tried to "spin" my tires on pavement and blew up my tranny, split my transfer case and axle wrapped my drivers side leaf springs... The ONLY thing that held up when the power was planted was the 31 spline rear with the Torsen, I was surprised!

Most of the 4x4 guys here buy and build there trucks for moderate to severe offroading, that's why we coin the phrase "pay to play" it comes with the territory, and all part of it. He wasn't complaining about it breaking and was more excited about the upgrade he gets to do now.
