If Ford brings back the Ranger what stays and what must go?

I wanted to know other peoples opinion about a new Ford Ranger. To me if Ford would bring back the Ranger the body style would have to remain the same. They would have to also bring back the FX4 Level II. I would like to see a step side model again as well as a new four door model. A higher stock suspension would be nice like the old school Rangers had. Just wanted to know what you people thought would have to stay and what would have to go?

What do mean when you say it would have to be close to the size of an F-150. All Ford has to do is three things.

1. Make a more fuel efficient V6 engine that will get high mileage with little problems.
2. Keep the same old pre 2011 body style but add a four door model and bring back a step side model
3. Up grade the interior with a more luxurious look.

Other than that nothing else has to change and is certainly dose not have to be the same size as a F-150.

and doing all that will drive the cost close to an F150...ford will not change eating into 150 sales....and even if they do bring it back im willing to bet that the F150 will still outsell it...tundras outsell tacomas, titans outsell frontiers etc

So because a half ton truck out sales a compact truck you should not make it. No. I am sure that a lot of previous Ranger owners that needed to buy a new small truck had to jump ship to either a Colorodo, Tacoma, or a Frontier. Ford is still loosing customers and money in the compact truck market. There's a reason Toyota still makes Tacoma's even though Tundra's out sell them and that is because there is money to be made and customers to gain. Just face it Ford screwed up and they are finally realizing it that is why there are rumors about a future Ford compact truck. By the way have you ever owned a Ranger or a Mazda because I have owned two of them.

Nice Ranger. Unless you have a growing family or need to tow or haul a lot you made a big mistake. Yes I have looked at the price of a Tacoma and to get a fully loaded one you are looking at 30 grand. If you where to buy a fully loaded F-150 you will be up into the 40's. Back in 2011 you could buy a fully loaded Ranger 4x4 or FX4 for around $27,000.00 before taxes. It is not the Ford Rangers time at all. Look, Ford is going to bring back the Bronco next year and many people said years ago that is was the Bronco's time. The Ranger just needs a few minor adjustments like I mentioned earlier and the Ranger will do just fine. Lets not forget one last thing and its called INFLATION. Back in the old days cars and trucks didn't have fancy things like MP3 players and back up cameras. All that cost money to put into vehicles. You have to remember that technology ain't cheap. Lets face it a small compact truck can be made and sold in the high teens or low twenties with money to be made by the manufacture and money to be saved by the consumer.

No I didn't make a mistake. I'm a single guy just me... Hell I don't haul or tow a damn thing . I was tired of the ranger if I was gonna get fullsize mpg I'm gonna own a fullsize. I was tired of the lack of space, **** ride, horrible gas mileage, and outdated truck and the stupid jump seats. And no you aren't gonna be able to sell a truck like you said for low 20s. There is no way in hell

Oh and also the bronco is not coming back. That story that was published was a hoax. Did you see when the article was published? April 1st aka April fools day..The 2015 lineup has already been announced and the bronco is no where in there or in the future vehicles. I would have heard about it at work if ford was going to debut a new vehicle

Idk why you are getting so butt hurt over this. Guess you know the market better than ford does

Hell I'd go back and say since 1998 it was forgotten. It more or less stayed the same from 98-11

In early 2000's Ranger profit margins were declining and down to around 10%, as a comparison F-150's have maintained a steady at 25% over the years.

You can spend your time making a dime or making a quarter...........not a hard choice, lol.

You also have to consider americans arent getting any smaller i agree there still is a large group of ranger followers but its not large enough to justify its continuance. Im 6'4" and i am far from able to fit comfortably in it and I'm not alone. Don't get me wrong i love my ranger but its just time to go it served its purpose as a cheap reliable first car and now that time has passed. Even if ford had a new ranger on the lot to sell me id be very reluctant to purchase it. They are just to small and have none of the features of its big brother. If i go for a truck it will be an F-150.

Well said also. And we also have to remember we are in the minority of owners here. Most people don't care what ford does or doesn't do

^ agreed. I would venture to guess that about 75% or more of the ranger purchasers over the last 10-15 years were fleet users but most of those were leases and how often do fleets really get updated? The profit margin for sales were low and leases are probably even less because once they come back to the dealer at the end of the lease they have tons of miles and sell for mere pennies with todays economy i don't blame them one bit. If we learned anything from the recession its to make your money while you can and that means thin the losers from the herd and put your money in the cash cows which are the f-150's

We just sold a bunch of fleet F150s to a former ranger fleet. I was talking to the guy and he said the F150s cost less to run than the rangers and the drivers are more comfortable in the F150s

Definitely feel safer my brother just bought an f150 and i towed with it the first time the other day if you haul or tow anything with a ranger you will know exactly what i mean when i say it gets kinda spooky when your close to max weight it pushes that little truck around a lot and my gas milage isn't much better than an f150 when towing so the ability to tow more with the same general fuel costs is a huge deal.

If Ford builds another Ranger I would buy it when it is time to replace my 2010 Ranger.
For me it is the perfect vehicle.
If they do not have a replacement, I guess I am going to Chevy, Nissan or Toyota.
Not moving up to a 150.

yea...hell my F150(both of them) are less than 15 bucks more a month to insure than my ranger was, and the fuel cost is the same...yes it may cost me 100 bucks to fill up but i can go well over 600 miles on a tank

I think it's at least partially a cultural problem. Most people think bigger is better, also a lot of people are overweight and are too big for a Ranger sized truck anymore. And if I can get a huge truck for close to the same cost as a small truck, they'll feel like they're getting a better value going for the huge truck.

If I could get a new version of my truck, with a modern n/a 4 cylinder, 6-spd manual, and a *few* more features (basically just an aux jack and usb stereo), I would gladly pay $20k for a reg cab 2wd with 30's mpg highway. Especially considering a Tacoma starts at $18k.

And I would just mention from what others have said, not all Rangers have a **** ride, horrible mileage, etc. I guarantee I would be paying more in gas if I had to move up to a 150 today.

When my Ranger needs repairs I will fix it. When parts need replacing I will replace them because other small trucks just don't compare to a Ranger. Some people in this world are like me and don't want a big truck that is bulky and way over priced. My thought is go big are go home which means you should have purchased a F-250. If you read Hi Desert's thread on the overseas Ranger you find out that it has great numbers when it comes to towing hauling and gas mileage. I disagree with him on the looks but Ford can fix that buy keeping the same body style as the pre 2011 Rangers. The Ford Ranger was also way lighter than the F-150 which means that they can certainly come up with an engine that will get way better gas mileage than a F-150. I'm a little disappointed that Ford discontinued the Ranger but there are plenty of used ones out there for sale. Until the rest of the auto companies discontinue their line of compact trucks I will say Ford screwed up. Now go out and buy a real truck like a F-250.
