Hey guys hows it going? So here is the deal. I got a flat tire this afternoon coming home for lunch. So i figured ok 15 min max and i will be back on the road. Wrong. One of the nuts is seized on tighter then something really tight. So i tried liquid wrench, i tried heating the hell out of the nut and nothing happened. Not the nut is striped and the tire is still on the truck. Does anyone have any suggestions short of using torches and blowing the stud out.

use a grinder and grind two flat sides opposite each other down to fit an open end wrench on it. if that doesnt work use a dremmel and a cut off wheel and cut a slit all the way down it. that should releave the tension and do minimal damage to the stud

 

^hes probably going to have to get rid of the stud anyway, at least i would, just do what it takes to get it off

 

That's one ugly nut! Sorry about your luck, but that's all I've got to say on this subject!

 

Try welding another nut to the lug nut and use a long breaker bar?

 

Will he heat from the welder not mess up the threads on the stud

 

Not enough to cause problems, if any at all. I did it on my zuk a couple of times.

 

yes, try this first, and if not, then try welding something to it.

 

weld a piece of angle iron to it.

 

dang that thing looks wicked!! i'd stick with the previous ideas, they seem to sound good

 

If you like the wheels don't use a torch or welder, if not do whatever you want. Try grinding it off then replace the stud.

 

I think it'd be easier to throw a couple tack welds around it than try to get a grinder in there without hurting the wheels. If it were me, i'd go after it with the vice grips and then weld something like the angle iron or another nut to it, and then I'd replace the stud and toss some nice anti-seize on it.

 

ya i have tried using vice grips and nothing happens but ripping more metal off.

 

So i tried the dermal tool thing. Was working great till the little piddly *** screw that was holding in the cutting bit broke. So now i have the stud cut off and the rims is still stuck on the tire. I will upload a pic in a min.

 

dremal is what I would use. Is that an Alcoa rim? pop the center cap of if it is so you can get at it better.

dang, how did you even do that much damage to the nut? I've broken off studs before the nut got that messed up!

WEll the nut got right strippend and the only way to get it off was eather cut it off of use torches and blow it out.
