So my dad has 65 year old man working for him that drives a 02 ranger fx4. The other day he was driving to work and hit a pot hole on a back road @ 35mph and lost controle. Roads were wet and his goodyear MT/R's were worn. But anyway he loses controle and hits a tree on the passanger frount side creaming the frount end. Crazy thing is that it bends the frame and the bed actual bends into the back of the cab. At 35mph.

I want to know if anyone has anything to say for the safty of these trucks. I mean at 35 this happens what if Im doing 55 what would be the result. Any stories to add would be interseting. If others have seen this I realy dont trust my truck. And what would happen with my body lift on? Are these trucks safe at all?

thats what happens at 55+

 

first spell checker would be your friend...........and if you search the site there have been 2 rollover that have had bodylifts on them and the drivers had minor cuts and bruises.....

i was doin 45 when i got into my front end accident, i was completly fine, front end was a little banged up, cost 9k to fix it but i was save. others have been in accidents and said to be fine just sore. the ranger is very safe imho

 

35mph, depending on the situation would do some nasty damage to any vehicle, it's not like it was parking lot speeds lol.. there are a lot of "wrecked ranger" stories floating around here, do some searching and you'll see how safe these little trucks are- you'll see pics where the truck looks real bad, but the driver and/or passenger suffered little to nothing in terms of injuries, maybe scrapes and bruises.

 

Wow, after seeing some of them picts I guess they are safer then i thought. Our driver did walk away with nothing more then a sore nose sine he didnt have a seat belt and the air bags did work. Looking at the way they smash up I guess they take the beating for us the drivers. Everyone drive safe. All the work we do to make them hot can be lost quickly. Thanks for the stories.

 

i rear ended a car with not break lights in my stock 2k1 mazda b2500 i had before this truck, totalled both vehicles(no charges towards me thank God) but i was find other then a head ache form the airbag and i hit them doing about 35-40 and put the front pumper to the firewall

 

airbags go off at 35MPH so he prob was going just under as he hit the tree....

also, no seatbelt= reason he even got injured in the first place

 

Thats what he told me today. But you know them old guys who were raised with out seat belts and air bags. Think they know it all.

 

most ranger accidents reported here the driver received minor injuries. as long as the driver is safe then it doesnt matter what the truck looks like.

 

yea i think leo is the only person to sustain really bad injuries that i can recall... granted he got completely blindsided....

 

That's nearly the same as my first Ranger, a 2001 standard cab. Here's what I did to it at about the same speed. The frame was also bent.

That point on the frame is the place it's most likely to bend I think. The break between the cab and bed reduces the rigidity, and that's just aft of where the boxed frame ends and so forth.

Despite this the trucks are quite safe and have an excellent record. What do you expect if you're not hitting end on to a solid frame, lol?

When you hit a pole, tree or whatever (I hit a pole), the force is concentrated in a small area, and does correspondingly more damage than just sliding into a wall or something where the impact is distributed.

 

From the stories on here they are pretty safe in my book. I know of one incident that doesnt end with cuts and scrapes, but it was a head on with a fullsize.

Yeah, that was about 4 years ago. The pics are on page 2 of my Cardomain, but no one every goes there, lol.

 

I got hit head on at about 30 MPH by a F250 and I still drove home. Accually I still drove my truck for a week after until the insurance company figure all there crap out.

 

Believe it or not, I DROVE my truck in the pics above home. But it was "crab-wise" down the road -- felt and looked like I was driving at an angle down the road and my daughter who was following me said the truck was at an angle.

It would go up to 45 before it began vibrating but then it came up FAST. I drove home just under 45 and it was fine. Wierd.

They totalled it and I got the better equipped 2002 supercab I have now at 0% financing. I came out of that one okay. Lot of pan for weeks, but it passed.

and that is also why i dislike goodyear quite a bit.

 

My brother was doing 50 and they were doing 70. Funeral was 3 days later. Theres a reason I don't drive like every other teenager on the road.

 

Damn man I'm sorry to hear that. After rolling my ranger at such low speeds even, I'm VERY careful about my driving. Even my mom calls me grandma sometimes
