I started my truck yesterday and it died after about 5 sec.
After about 30 minutes of searching around, i figured out that my fuel pump fuse under the hood blew. So I buy a new one and change it (20a) and start the truck and it blew again. So i check all the wires and nothing seems to be shorted out.

I just finished pullin the fuel pump out of the tank (ya it sucked) and i hooked the pump up to a power source and it works fine.
I cant fingure out why it would be blowing fuses when im not shorting out the system and the fuel pump is working fine.
any ideas?

Alright, if all the wiring looks good. It's either a shorted relay or it's fuel 'pimp' time. Take another relay such as your park lights or whatever is the same as the fuel pump relay and put it in the fuel pump spot. If the fuse blows still odds are you've got a bum fuel pump drawing too much amperage.

 

Maybe the Fuel Pimp needs a new cane or feather for his hat?

I've tryed that. blew the fuse again.

I took the pump and hooked it to a battery (out of the truck) and it pumps the gas through, and sounds fine...so i donno.

Do you have a multimeter? If you do or you can get your hands on one, remove your fuel pump relay. Set the meter to Amps, (Not milliamps or you'll blow the internal fuse. Look at the numbers on the relay to. Put the negative lead in the 30 terminal hole and the positive in the 87 terminal of your fuse box. The fuel pump will start working and you'll get a reading of how many amps it's drawing. If it's drawing more then 20 that is your problem. If it draws less it's a wiring problem. And don't worry that's actually a correct way of checking it...

dude if you'v still got a warrenty take that **** back to the dealer..... i had a problem close to what ur haveing and just went ahead bought a fuel cell, external pump and it works fine lol but anyway good luck with it it's kinda like pissin in the wind tho

how much do you have in the fuel cell and pump? did you get your factory guage to still work?

 

Hmm, I don't know the wire colors off hand to tell you honestly. I'd say plug it back into the harness and try what I said. If you don't see numbers on the relay you're not looking hard enough usually. There are usually very small numbers on the bottom at the prongs or else a drawing on the side. There are 30 (Ground), 85, 86, 87 and sometimes 87a.

 

Ok i got the problem fixed...after 5 hours of thiinking and checking everything.

It was my dam kill switch that i have attached to the inertia switch. I guess the switch went bad and was shorting out on a ground spot.

That was the last thing i would expect, but i guess the switch worked....it killed my truck....lol
