impressed with Ranger's power

This morning i gave my 02 Off Road it's first real test since buying it about 3 months ago.I had to haul 2 loads of heavy wet aged manure about 10 miles to my home. The bed was well rounded and had to weigh quite a bit.The rear springs were flattened but not bottomed out.I made the trip in 4th gear with no problems at all.I could actually gain speed going up a couple of fairly steep hills on the way.Last year i made the same trip useing a full size GMC Sierra 4x4.The Ranger actually hauled and handled much better than the GMC did.The longer i have this truck, the more i like it.

Yeah, the ranger is pretty much a beast. I am just wondering, you filled the bed of the truck right? Maybe your GMC drove different from having a larger bed and hauling more weight? Just thinking about the proportionality of the loads to the pick up sizes. I hauled about a thousand pounds of laminate flooring in the bed a couple months ago and really couldn't even tell it was there.

They are good trucks but just be careful hauling a heavy load with a manual transmission. These are small trucks and I think the payload is only 1600 give or take.

If its an easy drive it should be no problem but anything in the mountains, hills, or stop and go traffic the truck will take a beating.

Jake: Here in Mexico the manufacturer spec for hauling in the bed is 2650lb.
The array offered is 2.3L inline 4cyl, 5 speed manual, 2WD dana 44 Axle 4.56 gears.

I think your rating is higher then ours. 2650lbs is alot in the bed of a Ranger.

My 02 has the 4.0 and 4.10 gearing. Not sure i would want to try 2600 lbs but the bed rounded with wet manure was no problem at all.It really didn't handle any different than when empty. Not sure how much it weighed. The guy that loaded me estimated about 1200 lbs.I don't believe the Ranger was designed to be used for continious heavy hauling but was surprised at how well it handled it.
