Started my snorkel....Pics!!!

This post is for mostly to show Travis my progress but I welcome all feedback. I still need pics of inside the fender. I am not gonna finish this mod right away. I am turning my attention towards my lift for now.

The gate valve and adapter piece. Also pictured is the gasket in between them.

Here you can see the intake hole that I expanded.

An assembled view from the outside. The filter fits perfectly. Thats also the new filter that K&N sent me to replace the one I had that started to fall apart.

This is the view from the inside. It will take very little sealent to finish the front of the box up. I am still looking for a proper sealent.

What isn't pictured is the mess I made on the floor of my room in my appartment.

Before anyone asks there is just enough room to open the gate up. This is the same position that Travis's valve was in.

Do it!!! Itz not that hard either. I found that you can get the gate valves even cheaper in RV stores than on ebay with shipping. The one I bought was in the store for 12 whereas I paid 20 shipped off e-ghey.

Awesome Luke, you'd better get alot of use out of that in Wharton. You've got to do alot of water crossings to make up for your absence.

That's what it's for John. I am tired of being the weakest link when we go out. I probably still will be but not enough to hold us back.

I have one question with this, you call it a snorkel but really is it? Are you going to have an actual snorkel come out of the fender to access air or is it just sealing the airbox off. I know you mentioned tou dont have any pics in the fender yet just kinda curious.

It will be a snorkel like Travis did. It will end up in the cowl for now. Unless I decide to go him. Still unsure.

You were never the weakest link, you were the depth tester.

Nice work!!!

I really want to do this, but just a couple things are questioned with me...

When the valve is closed, where is the air coming from? And if it is coming from somewhere else, can't water get in that?

Where is the snorkel going to end up? I think the cowl, and that is awesome, I definetly want to consider doing that!!

I haven't cut the other hole in the box yet. And it will be connected into the cowl. Shouldn't have too much water issues.

Wow, thats pretty awesome. I may just have to do this...even though I'm 2wd and I would get stuck before I got that much water

thats what i'd want to do..

i mentioned something like that to Travis in his thread about getting an electric one and installing it in there instead, but then pointed out that i'd be too afraid each time and would check it myself before hitting any water, sort of making the electric version pointless. that and Travis said he already looked into them and they were just too big to fit.

I just got my truck back from the frame shop and gotta work out a couple lil quirks in the truck and I'll be pulling the fender in the next couple days Luke. Sorry about the wait, just finding one thing after another wrong/broken on this truck.

Good job on attaching the valve to the box! Make sure It's sealed all the way around, inside and out!

They make cable actuators for the one I have. It is a 72" cable so it would most likely be on the passenger side. I am thinking about doing that at some point but I am not sure. This will work well enough for now.

Thats not completely true in wharton. Sometimes the water is deep but the muck is not muck it will be more like a hard packed sand. With 2wd you just have to go faster on dry land so that your momentum carries you through the water...or if you go fast enough over the water.

I was thinking about that after I hit the post button.

Ive broke water over the hood, thats why I'm scared about the whole cowl thing, I just need something a little more water friendly.

I break water over the hood all the time. You're not driving in water over the hood now are you??

The cowl has vents on either end of it that drain the water. As long as your snorkel end going into the cowl box is setup correctly, there's nothing to worry about. I've taken my truck into crap 95% of the members on this board wouldn't even consider and that snorkel never let a drop of water into my intake box.

Very nice! I may imitate you myself -- but I need a new stock airbox since I have holes all over mine.

Anybody got a spare one around?

John Mason Dixion Salvage would probably do you right if you ever get the chance to go out there. Just past the Nottinghan exit on US 1 South. I love that place. Even got my light bar there.

Is it a "u-pull-it" type place, Luke? I don't know it, but I'll head down there sometime. When will you be back? That would be a nice "field" trip to take together, lol.
