Installing Nerf Bars

I finally got me some nerf bars and went to install them but ran into a problem i couldnt get the factory bolt that is in front of the drivers seat under the carpet out how do you get it out? I turned it with a socket but the rubber piece under the truck was turning to.

tryin to figure out why you need to go under the carpet to install nerf bars. im pretty sure my factroy ones bolt strictly to the frame.

you could try pulling on the rubber piece or you could try and turn the bolt while holding on to the rubber piece.

I was wondering the same thing. Nerf bars attach to the frame, not to the cab.

TippnOver 05-29-2005 03:28 PM

...and why are they called Nerf bars? they're not soft and multicolored for safety during sporting activities....

they attach to the frame...

Mykhael 05-29-2005 03:45 PM

The instructions say to remove carpet locate factory bolt under rubber cover and remove then replace with the bolt that comes with the bars

Bigwill41 05-29-2005 03:50 PM

Thats weird...

Good luck tho...

I said they attach to the frame...

BILLZFX4 05-29-2005 06:48 PM

Are they factory Ford nerf bars or aftermarket? The stockers bolt up to the cab, while most of the aftermarket ones I've seen usually bolt to the frame.

PickupMan92 05-29-2005 07:45 PM

stockers DO NOT bolt up to the cab... they bolt to the frame (where as any aftermarket one should.... I've taken mine off and installed them on Billy's truck... it's simple really.

Think about it really... why would they want you to put all your weight on a bolt that goe's through a thin piece of metal on the cab... versus the frame.. which is touch as steel.. hey what do you know.. it IS steel

loneFX4 05-29-2005 11:20 PM

does it specify wut bolt you need to pull up? the only one under rubber i can think of is the body mount bolt in the back of the cab. mine has a rubber cap over a hole that gives access to the bolt.

the body mounts are on the frame.

My STOCKERS BOLTED TO MY CAB........ NOT the frame.......

loneFX4 05-30-2005 12:04 AM

well dang...mine are definitely on my frame

doc 05-30-2005 01:59 AM

That is why I took mine off.... Did not like the idea that they bolted to my floor pan!!

Mykhael 05-30-2005 05:39 AM

If you pull your carpet up right under there in the front of the cab is a rubber cap it is just in front of the brake pettle you pull up the cap and a bolt that is a 3/4 painted blue on top is the one suppose to come out it doesnt have a nut or anything attached to it but this big a@@ rubber thing under the truck so I would say it is the body mount

PotterFX4 05-30-2005 06:44 AM

I know westin bars bolt to the cab. Most stockers do as well.

Pinecone 05-30-2005 07:08 AM

To get the body bolts off, I had to take a blow torch to mine and heat the loctite on them and jam a pair of channel lock pliers around the bolt and have it so the bolt wouldn't turn while loosening it inside the cab.

logan03CO 05-30-2005 08:15 AM

Well, that sounds like a pain!! I took my factory ones off and they bolted to the frame....took like 5-minutes nothing major at all

Pinecone 05-30-2005 09:03 AM

Lol, to put those bars on you may as well do the bodylift while your at it, cause those are the hardest bolts to take off:)
