Ive got a 3.0....

My 06 3.0 is just fine and dandy for sunday drive, But it has "NO *****" and i want to fix that little problem. Its got 33k on it and its stock minus a Race Ready Cut out. Im down for anything really. I would love to build a 4.0 SOHC from the block up so i can swap and not be down for too long. any ideas on where to get a bad A$$ 4.0?

If you are going to swap motors, go 5.0.

Ive got a single 3" right behind the main cat (that i knocked all the ceramic out of) and its wireless.

and I guess a 5.0 would work. what 5.0 do i need and what trans? (Keep in mind its an auto right now and id like to keep it that way)

sweet man! There isnt much you can get out of the 3.0 you can do under drive pullies and a chip, rocker rollers maybe.

would the powertrain hold up to forced induction?

it should.

ive put my stock drivetrain through hell with 33's but ive also gone through a trany and a transfercase.

Don't do a 5.0. Go with something cool like a 4.6 cobra motor or 5.4.

hmm.... thats no bueno. i might go with a 5.0 but im unsure cause i need it for a daily driver.

Look for a 1996-2001 Explorer 5.0 and 4R70W transmission. It's going to be a fair amount of work, but so would swapping a 4.0 since you would need a new trans for it anyway.

A 5.0 Ranger isn't cool anymore?

It's a lot cheaper then a 4.6 or 5.4.
