Who has done a........

Who here has done a frame off restoration ?
What did you use ? bedliner ? regular paint? ETC
How did it turn out ? How well did the product last / hold up ?

Tell me your stories of what you did and how it turned out.

A friend of mine had one done to his old vette. He had the fram powder coated. This is by far the best option but usually the most expensive as well.

When I do the 84 (don't know when it'll be), I'm going to have it sand blasted and use Eastwood Chassis paint. Or if I can find a place to powder coat it locally for a good price possibly a satin black, not quite flat but not glossy either. It'll probably be the East wood stuff though.

if you are going to do a FULL off body restoration. Ensurethe frame os EXACTLY like tye frame will be like when the truck is done, all holes drilled, filled, etc. Then take the frame to a shop that KNOWS what they are doing in the field of doing a restoration, them have the frame powder coated. it will last longer than the origanal frame caoting, that is for sure..

Thanks for the reply's ....... i was thinking about using some stuff called POR 15 , around here the off road guys sware by it, tough, dureable, and highly scratch resistant.

And since mine will be mostly a show n shine kinda build i thought i'de try it.
Powder coat out here is $ 1000

That was a great idea to fill all the holes in the frame that will not be used, it will make for a lot cleaner looking frame.

Thanks again

POR15 left to open uv rays will fade and will be useless if you dont use a paint to cover it.

I due originality, but I am not sure if you are talking old cars or your ranger. I am starting a frame off resto of my Cadillac this winter. I will have the frame blasted primed painted and undercoated just like it was from the factory. I will also use a lot of filler to smooth out the pitting from the 31 MN winters. Although it hasn't seen snow since 1992

POR15 is the way to go. I beleive it has to be metal to metal, and ideally if you have a vthin layer of rust it will be best. POR stand for Paint Over Rust.

No problem, in the most recent season of trucks they did a rebuild on an S-10 and they used POR on the frame.

Here is the website. The stuff isn't cheap, but it should work for protecting the frame.
