Very nice setup!!!

You should be happy with that

If I were you, I would look into a flipout...I would not mold if I were you. You can't get the right screen angle on it (it's too low) and IMO no one has done it right...yet. Everyone has it sticking out of the bottom because our din opening is not big enough. It's only 1 7/8 din or something. Look on mp3car...there is a guy on there with a fx4lvl 2...he said he knows bob or n3elz...someone along those lines (one of the smart ones ) and he has eatc and center console...all that

anyways, long story short, he molded it and IMO, it looked like it could have been better with a flipout. I'm just partial to the flipout...it's easy to transfer to another vehicle, etc...you don't have to do as much work!!! It's plug and play.

I would look into a mac mini...i was pondering that...although it will cost a lot of money to get the kinda audio I would like...hmmmmm...we'll see

Yeah I'm not counting the audio upgrades that I want. I just don't like the look of flip-outs and they are pricey. I've seen some good molded ones in explorers (same bezel) The guy you are talking about... tbird2460 or something similar, he didn't mold his, just cut the bezel and glued it in.

to me, it's just another toy. I love having navi sometimes for trips and such. DVD's are cool, and the music is endless. I mainly like em for the music...but now that I did more research, i'd rather just have an audiophile system. It would cost so much to get a 3 way active setup (4 way if you include sub) that it's stupid for me to run a carputer. The alpine 7855 or whatever it is has bass engine pro that you can run a 3 way active setup!!! Pretty sweet for under 400 dollars! Everything is internal.

When all is said and done, I'll have bluetooth phone controls, mp3, dvd, gps navigation, emulation, and probably a removable ps2 setup all running through the computer.
Like jpro said, it's pretty much a toy. The GPS navigation is always helpful, and who wouldn't want their entire MP3 collection over a 10 lb stack of CDs? I love gadgets and whatnot, so that will be fun, and I'll be able to run my phone handsfree through the computer so I won't have to hold it or take my eyes off the road even. When I'm bored I'll be able to hook up some emulators and play games, and even have dvds running for passengers and such. I am by no means going to have an audiophile system, but a computer can put out music just as good if not better than your average cd deck. The screen has video components too, so I can hook up a playstation or something for long car rides also.

Plus it's a COMPUTER! How many people have one of those in their truck!?! haha.

Quest, thanks for the offer. I just might take you up on it! I was kinda planning on doing it myself, but I should have an explorer radio bezel here in a few days that I plan on smoothing out the rear wiper button and using the 2 foglight holes on. I'll put some pictures up once it gets here.

theres a thread on decks vs. carputers for SQ on mp3car. It went heavily into debate. Basically the verdict is that decks are way better until you reach 320kbps b/c you need to have an external sound card (at least 5.1 or better $200-400) and you need either an internal or external eq (externals can be $500) and internals run about $100.

And by 320kbps, if don't have speakers to keep up, it's useless.

Basically, it will sound fine if you use a 3.5mm headset jack and split that into 2 RCA's into your aux in on your head unit, it will sound OK. You might get a bit of noise, but it's cheap. The next is the internal sound card...which can run upwards of 300, but they sound great. And there is no need for a H/U. And my favorite...external...there is one coming out in a couple of months that is 7.1 sound...it has 7 sets of RCA outputs or something...maybe 5. To me, I would just do the internal sound card.

Yeah I saw that thread but it hadn't gone very far when I did see it. I'm no audiophile... as long as it's as good as it was with the stock headunit, I'll be happy. I may go for a system down the road, but for now I want to just get it all up and running!

Atleast it is attached just next to the spring eye. The spring will deflect very little at that point under load. That being said, it's still a terrible idea!
