Just got back from a mini-vacation, w/MPG figures

Hi Yall,
I came back to find 12 pages of active topics since Thursday afternoon! Anyways, I drove to Kansas and back to visit a friend. On my first tank of gas, I managed 364 miles with the 16.1 gallon tank, averaging 22.6MPG, but also considering the tank was not empty when I refilled it, nor did I have any sort of low fuel warning. I think I could have managed 23 MPG, but that would be on fumes.

On the way back I hauled, but still managed 311 miles and I have a quarter of a tank left. Not back for the 3.slow and a truck with a big heavy cap on the back.

Where were you driving from to get 311 miles to Kansas and what part of Kansas did you visit. Seems like some good numbers for the 3.0L. Nice job.

You've got a 19.5 Gallon tank I believe- as do all of the supercabs.

I can't fill it past 16 gals.

I actually went to McPherson. I stopped to refill the tank on the way back, hence only 311 miles.

My truck can't offroad, and won't win any beauty contests, but I have the Energizer Ranger...it keeps going and going and going ;)

thats good, i ran about 20-21 on my trip to cincinatti, so about 380 before i filled up with my 19.5

im lucky to get 280 before my check light comes on. too scared to see just how far i can push it.
i bet the topper has something to do with it too.

bwester04 05-29-2006 07:07 PM

whoa, a 4x4 supercab with a 3.0L, havent seen that in a while! 280 is pretty good for a 4x4..

Well, I generally try to cruise around 70-75 MPH. I run the EATC at 74-75 degrees F and put the cruise control on while listening to tunes. I would like a tonneau cover as opposed to the huge cap, but the cap does allow for more cargo space.

When I had my 99 XLT it had a 20 gallon tank I think. I was able to squeeze around 430 miles average out of that truck.

bwester04 05-29-2006 07:28 PM

was it a 4cyl? I have yet to get over 360 miles to a tank..

pastfinder 05-29-2006 07:29 PM

No, it was a 3.0L V6. I didn't have a top on it or anything, and it had nothing power, ugh.

if the light just came on you could make it to 300 miles i bet.

ive got 324 miles on my 4.0 4x4 and stlll had 2 gallons left when i filled up. the light was on forever. i just kept driving it to see how far i could go. lol

I drive 25 miles 1 way to work, majority of it that is interstate, rushhour...constrction. it would suck to run out of gas there.
im thinking of buying a yamaha vino and putting death metal stickers on it, or camoclad.

Pinecone 05-30-2006 07:02 AM

Not too bad. I just got about 22 mpg in my 04 F150 w/ 4.6.

rolla_guy72 05-30-2006 07:38 AM

I'm lucky to get over 17mpg on my truck!!! I get 15 when I have the tires satnding up in the back.

Well, I have a 2WD and the 3.Slow. Both contribute to increased MPG. The fact that I also have the crappy stock tires helps some as well as my driving style, which is get to the speed I wish to cruise at, trim it up, and then leave things alone.
