What is everyones opinion on using the Rangers as a work truck? They would have a ladder rack and probably regularly carry 500lbs. I have considered picking up a bunch of rangers for work trucks since they get a bit better gas mileage then a larger truck, but I am concerned they their transmission might not hold up to our uses.

 

Like any other vehicle as long as you keep up with the maintenance you shouldn't have any problems!

There MUST be a reason why there are so many Ford Rangers in many company's fleets. lol

 

500lbs is no big deal for a ranger, just look at the spec sheet. Most fleet buyers shy away from manual trans to cut down on abuse, but there is no reason either trans would be stressed by such a small amount of weight.

 

I use mine for farm work. It's an old 94 with the 4.0l and It does great! I haul few bales of hay weekly and I have no problem at all. As long you maintain it, it will last you forever.
