K & N filter cleaning

OK I cleaned my filter yesterday and let it dry. Now it is time to oil it but I don't want to put to much oil on it. How do I know when the perfect amount of oil is on the filter and not to much oil???

not sure, but any info on how to clean them? I need to do mine soon. what did you use?

I went to the store and bought the k&n K&N Recharger (99-5000 Spray oil) and went by the instructions that it came with. cleaning it was easy because it can't be too clean; but if you over oil it you have to reclean it plus it will suck the oil into the intake system and dirty up your MAF (speaking of that, i saw MAF cleaner at the store the other day. I think it is the same as the eletronic cleaner stuff and it said that it could give you better gas millage if it is clean.). Its oiled right now but it might need more oil. AHHHHH I don't want to mess anything up.

i always went up and down the lines with the cleaner and let the excess run off for a lil while

I have a cone filter so it is hard the see the inside to see if it is coated or not

I will let it sit for tonight and tell you how it looks tomorrow.

just put it in between those ridges

Egor29 May 30, 2006 11:53 PM

I have the aerosol can

when i did it i went up and down the lines... and then you look for lighter spots after your down... you wont want it to be dripping oil, but not too dry because youll destroy the filter

Spray it like you are spray painting, make one pass in each area of the filter. Let it sit for awhile and then check the coverage. If you touch the filter a light residue should be on your hand. I never made any more then two passes with the oil after cleaning it.

It looks good and I will put it on tonight. It looks like their are little beeds of oil every hear and their though. I don't think that will bother it.

I would clean off the excess before you install it. Or the MAF will not like you in a few miles.
