Leaf spring removal

Leaf spring removal

Anybody have any tips for removing rusty rear leaf spring bushings?

Heat up the surrounding metal and knock them out with a large hammer and something similar in size if the bushing. Or drill the rubber out then knock out whatever remains in there.

A lot of people end up having to burn them out.

Yes, I use propane torch, and you get dirty smelly BLACK smoke, lol, not the nice and clean "magic smoke" that comes out of electronic parts

RUN WATER IN THE BED when doing this or you WILL blister the paint on the top side of the bed

I am doing one tomorrow, not looking forward to that part, but the old bushings rarely come out without this

My local parts store seems to have them when I need them.

I use the Dorman hangers, not sure what brand the bushings are


And the bushing is usually not worn out, problem is the BOLT in the bushing, rusted solid so only way to get it out is cut it and burn out the bushing
If you can get the bolt out then bushing can be used in most cases, you just can never get the bolt out
