work in progress
Thought I'd throw up some pics of my dashboard that I had removed for the past two weeks to sand and paint. What I'm doing with the dash is removing all of the texture = pain in the ***.
one of the boxes for my custom back of truck
dash when it was primed
after the satin black coat
I'm spraying a clear satin coat or three right now... I'll post some other pics when its installed

well it did take forever but I was lucky enough to have friends drive me around. I also patched three screw holes in the dash from a previous ipod installation(the screws used to be where the pic shows. What I basically did was prime the whole surface with SEM flexible primer. Then I sanded the primer until I was able to see the vinyl then I just kept carefully going until all the primer was gone and it was flat.
southernmudslinger - it isn't as simple as just sand away since the vinyl is very thin and it pills up under sanders.
this is different from the how to for "glassing" your dash since they used regular non flexible paints made for plastic. I used all SEM products that were flexible - primer - black - satin gloss.

oh, it has vinyl on top of it..........hmmmmm........might could use fine paper on the DA like 320 or something, or just went slow with it. Maybe its not a good idea......I pictured the dash being plastic, and not thin.
Just go slow. lol
Yikes, I dunno if i have the ***** to take a DA to something with those contours

I own a full woodshop thats how i made the boxes just right for the speakers and the place they go, I can take pics of them carpeted now.
As for removing the dash I figured out a few tricks that aren't posted anywhere.
There are 6 big bolts that hold up youre entire dash, everything that is up there, wheel included. You need to remove these after you have taken out all of the screws you can access in your sight. There are two more hidden screws that you can only access on the sides or the vinyl dash. As well as i think 5 that are all along the top that you can only access by taking this down or by using a magic wand.
Also to access those top 5 screws it helps a ton to take off that blower part that directs the air into your truck, there are two screws on the sides of that too.
