Leaving 5spd in gear...

Those who have manuels do you leave it in gear when you park your truck?

I usually put it in first and apply the parking break. I just want to know if this is bad for the truck.

Always in gear when parked. That way if the parking brake fails the truck still won't roll.

you are supposed to leave it in either first if facing uphill or reverse if downhill. i'm always on flat ground so i just throw it in neutral. if i park on a slant i follow the forementioned directions.

the dealer always puts it in gear and the first few times i forgot about it tehn stall out.
when i had my old dub, it didn't have a clutch lockout to start. it'd be at the mechanics' and i'd start it and it would lurch and scare the crap outta me.

In gear and parking brake on all the time and any surface. Simple way to avoid an accident. I had a buddy that parked his car but never put it in gear. One day the parking brake cable snapped and his car rolled downhill into a Mercedes.

I even set the parking brake when I'm driving an auto.

I owned 3 cars with 5 speeds and I never left it in gear. I live in Houston though where the biggest hill is the driveway.

I used to only set the Parking Brake until last winter when it froze to my rear drum. Biggest pain in the **** ever trying to get that "unfroze". Nothing like laying under a truck parked on the street in -10 degree weather so you can go to work.

Anyway, now I hardly ever set the e-brake unless I'm on a hill and just leave it in gear.

I leave it in gear. if you do put in R uphill, 1 or@ down hill. i case the brake dont hold, so it dont suck the oil out of the system (oil pump will run backwards)

I leave mine in gear since the e-brake on the 2Fiddy is in-op. I typically, when driving other manuals forget to set the e-brake as well. No big deal, long as I put it in 1st facing uphill, and reverse heading downhill, it doesn't matter. However, I have been known to leave the truck in 1st facng a mild downhill slope

i just set the ebrake and leave it in neutral, unless i take it to the carwash or the shop because my release handle is broken and half the time the idiots cant figure out to release it.

i was at the car wash one day and sat outside for about 10 mins wondering why i hadnt seen my truck come through the tunnel, so i went to the front and saw 3 guys trying to figure out how to release my ebrake hahaha

depends, if i am not going to be driving it for a while (more than a few days) i just leave it in gear. but if i am out and about i use the ebrake. never do both.

in my DD (03 caviler) i use the ebrake all the time and dont put it in gear.

When use to drive a manual I just left it in gear, because in the winter, the brakes would always freeze up.

I'm so used to not having a parking brake, that I automatically park it in 1st or reverse. I even still do it and I still forget about releasing the pbrake sometimes. lol.

Short answer: I usually park it in gear unless I'm at home where it's almost level ground and dug holes from when I had no parking brake. lol.
