In this thread Bob has some really good pictures that show you where to pry the stock mirror off. I used a cheapo flathead with a decent sized square body, it does take some twisting but go slow and use steady pressure and it will pop off the socket.

Edit: It is much easier to get the glass out with the mirror OFF of the truck.

i broke the 2 little yellowish pieces that are in the part that spins for the power windows..

 

i broke one in each side.. and then i also broke the ball-mount..
