Let's play: NAME THAT PART!

Doesn't it measure the barometric pressure? Not sure what it's called..

It has a rubber hose that connects to a metal tube that runs down the driver's frame rail to the emissions controls behind the tank. It has a vacuum connection that goes to the motor, and another rubber hose that goes SOMEWHERE. (hence the point of this thread)

I believe there are two valves for the evap canister. Maybe it's one of them?

redranger4.0 just posted about this in his SAS thread.

THAT'S IT! Thank you! I tried to remember this all day yesterday!
Now I just gotta figure out where the other vacant hose goes. |

The larger one in Tim's picture near the master cylinder is the Evap Canister Purge Valve. Just to keep everyone confused, some Ford literature refers to the ECPV as the VMV (Vapor Management Valve). The large and the small vacuum lines both go to manifold vacuum but obviously to different ports. |
^^ummmm WOW!
|
Wow...I thought the purge solenoid was what is attached to the cannister. Bob do you know where the larger vacuum line connects to the manifold? Is your ECPV mounted in the same location, or did you move it to under the battery mount plate like it was on the Explorer?

I ripped the cover off once trying to diagnose another problem...there's a foam sponge filter element inside. It wasn't the problem and I put it back together.

My 03 has one, so yours should too. |
hmm ill have to take a look.
|
It's either right in front of the brake master cylinder, or underneath the battery close to the horn mounting location.
|
how could they both go to manifold vacuume doesnt one have to go to the tank to vent the evap system? or is there a third line?
