Lift Question for my 98

I am new to this forum, so please don't get mad at me if this has already been answered. I have a 98 Ranger 4x4 extended cab XLT and I want to do a lift, but not a body lift because I want more clearance. I know I will need to add-a-leaf and get new c-clamps to hold the extra leafs, but what else do I need to do. I probably don't want to buy a whole kit because that will be too expensive. What would you recommend?

By the way, I want a 2 to 3 inch suspension lift? if that is what you call it

your only options... if you dont want a $200 body lift...

$1600ish(with out skid plates or driveshaft) Superlift 4"

$2300ish(with out driveshaft) RCD 6" (requires prefesional welding)

$ dont know because never checked but still expansive the DBR long travel kit...

have fun...

you can crank your Torsion bars a little to get about .5-2" maybe depending on how sagged they are

Sounds like I own the same truck you do and I've looked into the same thing and Zach is, as usual, dead on. We don't have a lot of cheap options. I refuse to do a body lift and so, until I win the lotto, I remain stock height (except for a torsion crank). It sucks but that's the way it is.

Off topic, but it that shows how much people dont know about something until they have it or have used it.

On topic, if you want a good suspension system in the range you are looking at, (2-3") Superlift makes a great 4" kit as Zach stated above.

I am not hating on body lifts, lol, I am just kind of a noob. If I get a body lift though, I won't get any more clearance. The only reason I would get a lift is to get more clearance. Or am I wrong?

Bodylift=bigger tires=more clearance and traction

kinda like what Tim just sayed lets start school here. a NORMAL lift kit like a RCD or Superlift... with just the lift alone you DO NOT get more ground clearness you get more approch and deproch angles but you get that with a body lift too. a typical suspension lift like those two on a IFS front suspension still drop down the front crossmember to orginal hight...so with out larger tires you do not get more ground clearness... ok now being they range from $1500-$2800... you can score a body lift for like $200 which will alow fitting with out rubbing of 33x12.5x15 which is what most people put on a superlift and you will have the same amount of ground clearness for less $. now back in the day body lifts look ****ty they never included the front and rear bumper relocator brackets now they do.. and with following Evans(rangererv) $10 gap gaurd thread you will basically never even tell its body lifted atleast the normal stupud person will never know... most "offroaders" never even take there truck to the extream of being a body lift is unsafe so you will have mostlikey never have a problem...any more questions just ask...

I didn't know I hated them..I thought I just didn't like them. Learn something new everyday.

I'm not discouraging people from doing the BL, just saying I wont. Really not a big deal.

EDIT: I also wouldn't put a lift kit on my truck either. Too expensive and lift isn't a big deal to me as there isn't a lot of offroading to do anymore around here and my money is going into other things.
