New ranger

iam looking for a ranger and have found three near me.
One is a 2001 ext. cab 4.0 auto with 103k it has a salvage title but the door was replaced.
another is a 1999 ext. cab with a 3.0 5 speed with 175k on it and i think it has a body lift.
And the last is a 1998 3.0 5 speed with 120k on it.

i dont know a whole lot about rangers and how long they last but i want something reliable until i hopefully do a 4bt conversion to it. here are links too two of them

Personally I would go with the 01. 103k on that motor is really nothing as long as it wasnt abused or anything.

What's your price range man?

I would honestly buy yourself a 01+ with manual trans. Much better IMO...

I searched for the right truck for about 3 months before finding mine.... And still fell short. So I built it up with exactly how I wanted it... More expensive but can be done!

Welcome to the site man! Glad to see another OR member joining up!

Personally, I could never buy a used vehicle with over 100K on the clock again.

I would keep looking.

I'd go with the 4.0.

Very reliable motors if taken care of. My 02 has 260 000 miles on it. Never even had the check engine light come on in it's life. I don't know much about the auto transmissions, but the manuals are known for slave cylinder problems. I'm on my 2nd clutch and 3rd slave cylinder.

Overall, no matter what Ranger you buy, it'll be a good truck, but you hear lots of complaints on here about the 3.0's being gutless and some problems with them. The 4.0 has decent power, but it's got almost V8 fuel consumption. You'll generally see 16-21mpg from it.

I wouldnt be afraid to buy it with 100k on the clock, it's still got lots of life left. Just make sure it's got a documented service history.

38k means it has been driven only 4,700+ miles each year? damn. thats around 390 miles each month ! and i thought my '01 had low mileage at 70,000 miles!
