Load Limits ??

I need to haul a one ton load several miles on residential streets. I can keep the speed down to 20-25 mph. Does anyone have experience overloading a Ranger like this? What is the REAL limit ? Mine is a stock '97 extended cab with good tires.

/Zac

I have officially hauled 1800 pounds without problems, which was one inch from the bump stops. I have also hauled a cubic yard of topsoil, which was firmly sitting on the axle...couldn't get a weight on it though. I'm so far so good. YMMV

one ton should be fine. i've hauled cement bags and we figured the weight to be around 1500. just go slow and be prepared to stop earlier on for lights and signs.

you both need be more specific. OP and big edge. OP you didn't say what trim level your truck was or what engine.
manual or auto trans also comes into play on the payload or towing arguement.

in 2008, for a supercab 4x2 w/a 3.0L yes it's 1260 for the sport and 1520 for xlt w/o seats and 1660 w/ seats.
same year, supercab 4x4 w/a 4.0L it's 1440 w/o jump seats and 1580 w/.
same year, reg cab 4x2s are 1260 for the 4 banger and 1620 for the 3.0L
his is a 1997 and i don't see those numbers changing too much since the ranger itself hasn't.

if he really wants to be safe, he can get a trailer with a class 3 hitch.

for arguments sake there are others on this site that use their trucks for towing and have towed whether it's towing another vehicle or having the springs sitting on the bumpstops. heck one guy even used a 5th wheel.
