The bumper is off thats for sure. They started in 2009 or 10 to make FX4's without DSG.

If what all people say is right, if was prob stolen, crashed, ripped off and fixed with used parts for cheap. Or the owner was a complete retard

swoop what dealer is it at?

also, as for the "colour" of the "bumpeur". it is kind of odd and the "speedometeur" is probably in km/h the mudflaps are nasty. as for the torsen, the axle tubes will be 3.25 if it is a 31 spline and 3" if it is a 28 spline "axeul" "torseun" MUHAHA

If you look closely the speedo is in MPH, not KPH.. Goes from 0 - 120 mph, Canadian Rangers go from 0 - 200 km/h. LR

Man I'm Canadian and I don't even know what the "Canadian way" is. I just spell whatever looks right haha. And i think thats usually the america way. Silly french are responsible for half the stereotypes haha

torsen l/s, normal l/s, and open carriers will all leave 2 burn out marks, open carrier only split the power when the wheels dont have equal traction.

even if it is just an l/s both will brunout. I just got a l/s in my fx4 and both tires spin. the torsen was supposed to be better, but I have heard some people say it's not that great, but I don't know that for a fact.

I went and looked at it and while it seemed mechanically sound and looked good -- I passed for some unknown reason. I just wasn't feeling it.

The dealer was the old Jerome Duncan, now Suburban Ford.

I now found one here in Tampa Florida with 134 miles, 2008, left over...nobody wants a FX4 here on the coast I guess. Might drive it home. Gonna swing by and look at it, even though they're closed.

So, besides the sticker, how in the world do I know if it has a Torsen or not? You can't tell by driving...?

More to come.

Here is the window sticker:

That is more the driver and the tires than the Torsen. I bet the truck was still in 4hi.

08/09 FX4 Off Road w/std Traction-Lok L/S:
28 spline axle assembly has ~3" axle tubes

08/09 FX4 Off Road w/optional Torsen L/S:
31-spline axle assembly has 3.25" axle tubes

If you don't have a caliper or micrometer, wrap a string around the axle tube between the spring perch and the diff housing. Mark it to get the circumference, then straighten out the string and measure it.

If the circumference measures about 10~10.5", then it has the 31-spline / Torsen axle
If the circumference measures about 9~9.5", then it has the 28-spline / Traction-Lok axle

my torsen seems to kick some serious *** even when i had the bfg's. maybe yours is kinda toast or something? mine only let me down once, for some reason just wasnt kicking in the way it should've. keeping in mind it is only limited slip, not a locker.

You don't think that a mud terrain tire would have performed better in that mud than your all terrain tires?

How did you get your truck out of there?

I am not claiming that the Torsen is the end all be all for traction, but don't assume that it will function as well as an actual locker. As far as stock components go the torsen is the best the ranger has had.

I've always heard bad things about the Torsen. Out of 3 Rangers, 2 with the standard L/S, i've never had any problems with them.

first off, of course I know a mud terrain grabs better in mud however tires have no effect on how a differential works.. i think people need to pay more attention lol

second, i wasnt even remotely stuck in that pic.

maybe it is just my torsen, all I know is it doesnt "lock" like many people seem to think and what I am trying to say is i would never replace mine with another limited slip, id just do a locker

Guys, no matter how you look at it, the torsen is still a limited slip. It wont lock up, its not a locker. The idea behind a torsen is that it is more durable and lasts longer, and it is supposed to be tighter than the regular l/s. If you want a locker, get one, but stop expecting the Torsen to be almost as good as a locker. It is not and never will be.
