This might be my chance

One of my buddies is selling his 1992 range rover for 200$. The body is in pretty good shape with only a few dents. Its 4 wheel drive with a solid front axle. At the moment it need a headgasket, motormounts and the tranny will only go in reverse nuetral and 1st. Interior is kinda bad but I plan on ripping it all out and rhino lineing it. I think the 4x4 works but Ill find that out later. Do you guys think I should jump on this? I plan on turning it into a trail rig so looks arnt a big worry.

And I towed it behind my ranger today without any problems.

Older Range Rovers are nice but the parts for them are quite pricey.

Have fun finding parts that don't cost an arm and a leg.

Thats what Im worried about. Hes not going to sell it to anyone else so I'm gonna do some research and see the cost of making it run.

Also my parents arn't the type who like having broken cars in their driveway so all the fixing I would do would be in the street or when their not home.

Another problem I have is if I make this thing 100% trail rated will I be able to trailer it? I towed it today without a trailer and I had no problems with traction or power except on a steep driveway. Remind you ill have exhaust intake and a bama.

Don't do it. I have my project jeep and it's a huge hassle. And I started with a working vehicle! Wait until you have your own garage and a steady job that you want to be pouring money into a non working vehicle.

Steady job isnt a problem and with summer comming Ill be working 40 hours a week, only problem I'll have is space. What I may try and do is get it working at his house because what he does is build up beaters and sell them. So I can get it running there then bring it home. If for some reason I couldnt fix it up could I sell it for scraps at a junk yard or something?

I'd think about it, the biggest issue would be parts. parts would be hard to find state side, but across the pond these things are plentiful. so you can get parts for them cheap, but your gonna pay a lot for shipping.

So what kind of things are made for these? Lift kits, performance, bumpers, snorkels?
I don't know much about these things.

Just about anything you want, aftermarket parts are not cheap for those things either. Check out this site.

Not much in the line of lifts other than completely custom. It's a really good deal and thesethings are capable but I dunno, they are big and heavy and parts are expensive. I may just keep looking for a jeep or sami like I first intended.

Garr decissions.

Yeah you will not find any big lifts for them. the largest I found was a 2.25" lift.

here is another company that makes stuff for them.

Ok well heres whats stopping me, can i tow it? I did fine without the trailer but Im not sure. It weighs 4,000 lbs.

Another thing, for a non street legal vehicle would I still have to pay insurance?

Not sure about the towing but you shouldnt have to buy insurance if your towing it and using for trails, not 100% percent sure though

no you dont "have to" buy insurance BUT you caint park it on the street without redgistraion and therefore cannot get redistration without insurace.. but bieng that its a seconday vehicle get the bare minimum insurance and it shouldent be much more thenb a few hundred a year.. and those things dont have HUGE lift kits because of the fact that a huge lift kid doesnt make it better offroad.. these things are about articulation. and if i rember correctly they use a chrysler or gm motor or somethin like that that should be very easy to get parts for..

all in all if you have the time the trans is going to be the most expencive part most likly and the hardest, but it should be good to go with only that 2.25 inch lift

One thing about living in nice areas, neighbors always dislike people working on cars.

Thats what I loved about the valley, nobody cares what you do.
