Vacuum reservoir. Maintains a reliable vacuum supply for A/C controls and PVH hubs when the engine vacuum drops.

joshtank 08-29-2010 04:54 PM

thanks

Masteratarms93 08-29-2010 06:04 PM

lol my mechanic friend was asking me that. i was like, reservoir for coolant????

joshtank 08-29-2010 06:06 PM

hahaha

reader585 08-29-2010 06:08 PM

I ripped mine off when I did my sas.

Masteratarms93 08-29-2010 06:12 PM

No A/C, no auto hubs, no need for it.

you hvac controls are vacuum assisted

and the biggest one: your brake booster is vacuum assisted

Details details.

I think that thing is for holding vacuum when the car is off. If the car is off, no need for brakes.

So....winters up there in the NE don't get too cold, eh? You're gonna need to relocate it if you wanna see out your window when the cold weather hits...

But...that's just what I've read in the past. No real knowledge on it. other than when I put my headers on, I burnt a hole through mine and the yard wanted to change me and arm and a leg for it! lol.

wellcom2knoxvile 08-30-2010 09:52 AM

HAHAHAHAH i have been wondering what this was!! when i did my shock hoops i moved it and forgot about it, after i drove around it shifted and melted against the manifold and ruined it and i was kinda worried about it!! hahahahaha thats funny that i dont even need it!

Masteratarms93 08-30-2010 10:00 AM

So I think the unanimous decision is, this part is expendable.

You need it if you want your A/C controls to work correctly when engine vacuum drops off (acceleration, hills, etc.). Henry wouldn't pay for it if it wasn't needed.

The man has spoken and we must listen. lol. Thanks Bob for clarifying that for us.

V8 Level II 08-30-2010 10:43 AM

Actually, I should have said "A/C and/or heater/defroster/ventilation controls".

having a reserve is one of the few things keeping your brakes working well at WOT, it would be like having a manual braking system again:indiffere

Of course, the plastic reservoir pictured at the top of the thread has nothing to do with the brakes. The power brake system uses its own (much larger) vacuum supply hose and check valve and the vacuum booster has enough volume to be its own short-term reservoir if engine vacuum drops off.

reader585 08-30-2010 01:45 PM

so with out it my heat wont work is what you are saying......hmm looks like it is going back on.

V8 Level II 08-30-2010 02:04 PM

Your heater controls will work correctly without the reservoir as long as the throttle is closed enough to make enough vacuum to operate the servos. Go to or near wide open throttle and the engine vacuum will drop causing the HVAC vacuum servo doors to go to their default routing and you'll have defrost only. If that doesn't bother you, then you don't need the reservoir.

Something to also remember Reader, is that it's directional.

the plug sizes are different. its pretty idiot proof!:27:

yes, you very much need this. you will be able to select your heat settings but with out this ball, your differnt vents will not work, it will defualt it into the defroster. ac will work, heat will work, but all through the defrost vent.
beive me i have been through this once already.

Jrevans2002 08-31-2010 05:12 PM
