2500 to 3 is fine. Now if you are like my buddy that always shifts at retarded RPMs then you are being harsh. He found a reason to need 8000 RPM in a drive through.

I never had the joy of a 5 speed with a tach...
1st to 2nd at 15mph.
2nd to 3rd at 25 or 30
3rd to 4th at 35 or 40
4th to 5th OD at 45 or 55

Wel when im just crusin and not trying to get anywhere really or anywhwere fast i shift at like 1800-2000. i wont go above 2k rpm. when i feel like goin a little faster ill go ip to like 3k 3100. if im gettin on it to get on the freeway or w.e ill go up to like 4500 max. theres no need imo to go above 4500. on a side not what is the red line on the 4.0's? someone said 10% above your max hp...

4000 is the redline, but the powerband ends at about 3200- 3500. the only time i have ever got my truck up to 4000 was when my buddy thought it was necessary to rev my truck that high for a video lol. he is a dumbass

LOL. I was going to say. I have personally had it up to what looked like 6200 on the dash but my scanguage only says 5800 but that is on a SOHC 4.0. I only go that high when I'm accelerating at full throttle while passing someone or showing a ricer that Rangers aren't that slow.

I'm going to have to say lame post on that one. Early 5.0 Mustangs couldn't rev much either but RPMs have nothing to do with how good an engine is. Also if you look Chevy is putting out way more power with their LS engines than Ford V8 engines.

I usually shift my 2.9 around 1500 to 2000 for normal driving. But I'll go up to 4500 while getting on the interstate or passing.

If I need to get on it, I'll shift between 4000 and 4500.

Well I have an auto transmission but I am curious what the deal is with reving the engine past redline when racing as they do on pinks or fast and the furious. Is it because shifting would put them on the very low end of the powerband or are they running out of gearing?

I set my auto transmission to shift at 2000 rpm from 1-2 and 2-3 at light throttle. 3-4 can shift at 1800 at light throttle. 5th gear torque concerter locks up at 40mph at light throttle. All WOT shifts are at 4500 rpm.

I would really love to tune a DCT transmission on my truck to get rid of all the slushyness.
