which motorcraft filter?

ive done my oil changes on my truck since day one i went to vatozone checked the book it said to use a fl910 same thing with the computer thing at walmart i noticed the first oil change that the fl910 was smaller than my factory filter(bought the truck new) never thought anything of it because thats what the book said till tonight i was at walmart and seen a motorcraft filter book i look in it and to my suprise it says fl400s look over check the computer it says fl910

am i suposed to use a fl400s or the fl910?
did i hurt anything?starved my truck on oil and caused extra wear?
last oil change i swaped to moblie one filter and fluid but liked the motorcraft better and my wallet liked it to

This is what Motorcrafts website says:

(FL-910)

Engine Oil Filter
2.3L 4V NA I4 Petrol

(FL-400-S)

Engine Oil Filter
3.0 V6 12V OHV EFI

(FL-820-S)

Engine Oil Filter
4.0L V6 12V Single Over Head Cam EFI

Owners manual says:
2001~2008 2.3L = FL400S
2009~2010 2.3L = FL910

Motorcraft site says:
2001~2003 2.3L = FL400S
2004~2010 2.3L = FL910/FL910S

Using the 910 shouldn't have hurt anything but, if I had a 2008 2.3L, I would go by the manual that came with the truck and use the larger FL400S.

Use the large one.
Bigger is better…

I was looking at a Motorcraft filter catalog yesterday and it suggested: 2001 - 2010 2.3L = FL400S, and didn't show the FL910 listed for any Ranger.

Ford like most other manufatures are trying to go to a one filter deal....like all honda's and acura's now have the same oil filter...my brother-n-law just went through same thing on his escorts......they're goin to fase out some filters and just use one filter. thats prob why the book said one thing and lil computer thingy said another. BTW my 95 2.3 takes a FL400s
