? on mounting tow hooks

Before i am told to search, i did and couldn't find anything to help me. So on with the question, Has anyone here found a way to mount tow hooks on a 2wd xlt with no front crossmember? I don't want a receiver in front, so with that could i buy aftermarket or get a set off a 4wd and drill the frame or weld them on to make them work? i wanna get more into offroading but need some recovery points, so any help i can get would help. Also pics are worth a thousand words

im not sure about the 01+ but on a 99 its near impossible, ive been looking all over the place to try and find some way to add them to the front and have yet to find one

thats what i have to deal with. is the 04 any different. Im almost considering putting steel block on the inside of the frame rail to offset the tow hook so it can poke through the bumper gap, just not sure how much it needs to be extended and i dont want to go more than 2"

enraged_hunter 03-10-2008 11:23 AM

yeah i think they are the same

S1att3r 03-10-2008 11:24 AM

my open diff is not helping also it sucks since its so wet down here i got stuck in my back yard. had to have my dad pull me out with the TO-30. i only get stuck on the grass when there water or mud i never get stuck.

enraged_hunter 03-10-2008 11:35 AM

with the open diff i find just keep my momentum up and i can make it through a lot

If you're familiar with welding and a torch you could probably cut the crossmember off of a rearend truck and weld it to yours with a little work. I'm sure it could be done without too much trouble.

weld the spider gears together, and make a locker.

^ wont work with the newer style bumper mounts

Midnightrider 03-10-2008 03:15 PM

could you not buy a 2 x 2 x.125 or .250 Wall tube and weld it up, you would have a Xmember and a place to bolt anything on.

jtslmn720 03-10-2008 04:34 PM

ok well i was out side and checked out to see how thick of a block i would need to get hooks to be able to mount on the inside of the frame rail and its about 2.5" so its a little big.

i would weld in a piece of 2x2 if i had a welder, ive been using this one guys where i work and he got pissed so now its locked up ha so ive been out of luck for a while

Midnightrider 03-10-2008 04:56 PM

Hmmm Maybe pass a guy at a muffler shop a 20 and he may do it. Heck even free maybe. Your asking a small time job. I cant imagine anyone making a fuss, heck even id do it if you were around the area.

04blackedge 03-10-2008 08:05 PM

enraged_hunter 03-10-2008 08:08 PM

jtslmn720 03-10-2008 08:31 PM

when it gets warmer out ill have an answer for this problem. right now its just to cold for me to take off my bumper and actually do work on my truck.

TommyC 03-10-2008 09:12 PM

What about hooking up a front hitch?
