Literally! I just bought a really nice used ranger, 2007, with the sport kit. It looks like it has a gibson split exhaust, not really a dually, it has only one muffler. How in the heck do i bolt a hitch to the frame with the exhaust in the way? Any particular make of hitch, or will i need to get one fabricated? Really don't want to use the ball on the bumper, not as sturdy, and the liscense plate will get creamed over the course of a season. I am a renaissance faire person, so tow regularly. Any and all advice will be deeply appreciated.

there might be enough slack in the exhaust system to drop it down below the hitch. I know i've seen trucks with duel and a hitch. or do like said above and cut it just after the axle...

 

I think i like this idea better..........the stingers are actually pretty cool, and would like to leave them there. So, if i dropped the exhaust, would i need to do some kind of hanger arm to support it? And then hang the stingers from the hitch arm?

 

I'd get down there and look at the hangers that are already installed for the exhaust. i'm sure you can make a short extension off of them to let it drop the pipes enough to clear the hitch. Of course, you might need to remove the exhaust to get install hitch, then re-install the exhaust will extenders on the hangers....just an idear.

I don't quite understand how the exhaust is in the way. Does it exit directly below or between the frame? A tube style hitch wouldn't work?

 

ive had a hitch with all my dual exhaust setups. Is this the extreme split where it comes out on angles one each side?

 

nope it comes straight back, but it isn't a true dual exhaust........it is a split, coming out of one muffler. Better half dug up a step receiver, so think we will put that on, rather than a frame hitch.........cheaper, already gots it. And don't have to touch the exhaust.

 

True duals is difficult with are trucks due to the gas tank location. I am unfamiliar with a "step reciever" but have seen others talk about hitch recievers that mount to the stock bumper....is that right? I am unfamiliar with that term and am curious. Also, I know I am not the only one who likes pictures so any exhaust/hitch pictures you may have post em up.

 

I put the gibson kit talked about here on mine, I had a hitch on it. no real clearance issues.

 

We'll do the photo shoot next weekend, when we add the hitch. Gonna do it on the bumper, and modify the hitch we have to make it work. Thanks for YOUR photos, very cool, and helpful to check out.

 

I had dual exhaust installed once after I took my hitch off. I told the shop to MAKE SURE I have clearance for my hitch. Well, they put the pipes right under the frame. I couldnt re-install my hitch withouth cutting off the pipes. So I had to cut the tips off of the truck.

OUCH! that must have hurt big time, after having someone install the exhaust with shop prices. Glad for the story, sorry that you had to cut the pipes. That's why the plan changed to a bumper hitch............my trailer is small, so should be fine.
